123 Account activation

Options
If I apply for a new 123 Current account with Santander online today, how long would it take to activate my account? Would the ''anniversary date'' be today, or the day they activate my account?

I'd imagine it's the day they finish processing it and actually open/activate the account. I don't have a Santander account, but this is the way it works with Tesco, who also run according to statement month.

Thanks Kim, how long would that be, is it generally activated within the same day?

Not sure what you mean by "activate" - online access? debit card? pin? all of these? What is it you are trying to do?

I mean if I applied today how long would it take for them to open my account, i'm wondering because I'd rather have it activated in the beginning of May (new month). But if it takes too long to activate it I'd rather apply today so it gets activated asap in the beginning May, if that makes sense lol

Sush40, I would say that up to a week is normal, however it depends on how busy they are, whether they request that you take ID to the branch (if they do, the branch staff need to forward it on before the process is completed.) If applying today, you'll also need to allow for the Bank Holiday.

Colsten, the OP is referring to the date that the account is deemed open according to the bank/credit reports, as this is the date that statement month accounts use. Application date and start date are only the same when the account is opened in branch, in my experience.

Thanks Kim, that's great. I wanted to go to the branch and open my account today, but don't really want it to be activated today (30st) simply because i'd rather receive all my statements at the beginning of a new month.
I'll apply online today instead so hopefully will be activated beginning of May

When I opened my Santander 123 account online it was pretty much usable within that day as far as I remember. The car and PIN took a few days to arrive but as I was already registered for online banking I able to put money into it pretty much immediately.

I'm not understanding why you are so concerned about the day of the month the account is opened on. How is it going to benefit you if the anniversary day is 1st of month versus 28th of month.

I would just want it opened as soon as possible once I had decided I want one.

The only reason I could possibly think of is that the monthly charge also gets taken on the monthiversary, and you could get overdrawn if you are running down your account to minus £12 each month. If that was the reason, the 123 sounds very much like the wrong account to chose in the first instance.
