This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

Morning all
Have you any idea how hard it is to type with a dog lying on your chest?
I had hoped she'd sleep with DS, but no, it had to be me!
Hugs to nmcl and Judi, Csarina, sorry your 'van wasn't up to expectations, LW I don't mind her sleeping on the bed for a couple of days but hubby's not keen, AOD I hope you feel better today, Mrs LW, glad you had fun with your DGS.
With regards to the sausage rolls I made, I had arranged to made them weeks ago when my name came up on the rota and I didn't want to let people down who had nothing to do with the financial decisions.
Yesterday I was asked to cat sit for 3 weeks during the summer holidays, £105, woo hoo, that is almost all the money I've lost so I'm almost even again.
I've reduced our phone tariffs, cancelled sky and bought a jar of peanut butter to make sandwiches for my lunches next week. I'm on a roll.
Hubby is working today so I'm taking a couple of boxes of stuff to the local CS and then photographing stuff to sell on Ebay, I have a bedside table and 2 book cases and 2 small wicker shelf units that would be ideal for someone to give a shabby chic treatment to.
I'm going to try for a snooze before my alarm goes off.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Thanks Hester, I do feel better but oddly headachy. It'll pass.
Am up and pottering, have stuff to do later.
I think my ancient D*son vac is on its last little leggies, yesterday it made a nasty burning smell.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning everyone.
It's lovely to have the early morning light again. Glasgow is cold'ish still.
Yesterday I took myself off to one of Glasgow's museums, one I hadn't been to before. Trouble was its not very well signposted, difficult to get to and has no car park. It's a huge place too. I spent about 40 mins driving round it - crossing the Clyde four times - before finding the right way. After that I enjoyed mooching around it.
Then I met up with a fellow OSer who kindly gave me a garden incinerator. I thoroughly enjoyed that too. Thanks.
Today is taking Mum to Waitrose for her weekly shop and then ill be heading home. Rain is forecast but I'm hoping it stays away.
Camelot - have a good trip south.
I hope everyone has a good Saturday.0 -
Morning All
HH - Hope your de-cluttering goes well.
Mrs LW - Your little Zebra sounds so sweet, lovely when they start to develop their own little personalities.
AOD - hope you feel better.
I'm off to Chester for the weekend to see my Aunt, she's 80 this coming week so going to spoil her. Her DD organised a meal for next weekend but as it's the bank holiday it's better for me if I go this weekend (and I wont have to see her!). She has gone on holiday so will miss her Mum's actual birthday which I find pretty strange. Anyway, need to pick DD up on the way.
The WM has just finished, I'll hang the washing on the airers before I go. Got home from meeting another OSer after work and did all the housework including stripping my bed. It was sunny and quite breezy so put the bedding outside about 6pm and by 7.30 it was all but dry.
Have a good weekend whatever you're up to. Take care. XX0 -
Good morning everyone
It's quite a nice morning here with the birds singing their hearts out. My dog is currently going crazy running back and forth with his teddies. Everyone else is fast asleep but I'm getting them all up at 9 as I have a busy day planned.
DD13 managed to finally clear her bedroom last night so her new bed can be made and also her wardrobe and bedside table need to be put together. I predict the air will be blue when my hubby starts on them. I shall be keeping out of the way downstairs with about 10 loads of washing to do. I'm not even joking .
I'm trying out a local fruit and veg delivery service this morning. I have ordered a large fruit box and a veg and salad box to see what you get for the money. It cost £20 but hopefully there will be a good selection as we are all eating a lot more vegetables and salad due to slimming world. I was spending around that on Tescos anyway so hopefully there will be more variety.
I have a food shopping delivery this morning as well and also a few things I have ordered for my friend from Amazon so I will have to go and get dressed in a minute so as not to scare the postman.
Hubby is cooking today but I fancy a nice salad with lots of bits like boiled eggs, ham, baby potatoes etc etc. so it's more of a meal. I don't mind making it if he is still busy with the bedroom furniture, I find it quite soothing chopping up all the different veg. I've bought myself a mandoline so I can slice things really thinly but I have to watch out that I don't slice my fingers as the blade is razor sharp. I also bought a spiraliser but I can't get on with it at all.
Well, that's all my waffle for now, hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning all. It's a glorious start here, no snow this morning but there is a thick frost everywhere. It'll soon disappear if the sun keeps shining. But when is some warmer weather due to arrive?!
DUMPLING I got a spiralizer and I know what you mean! It's brilliant for courgette "spaghetti" but I tried carrots and butternut squash in it without success! It just sort of grated it/messed it up! There is a website called Inspiralize which I keep intending to browse for ideas, but I never get on with it!
The fridge is stuffed full of BSD foods after yesterday's shop and I am back on the wagon big time! I have put last week's scoffing sins behind me now! I have some mince out to make more Bolognese from the recipe book and I also want to make the Spanish chickpea and spinach soup which I haven't tried before. The chorizo is ready and waiting!
Have a good day all and (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed. Take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone
HH - thanks for starting us off, you beat me to it this morning, I fell asleep on the sofa, woke at 11.30pm went to bed and tossed and turned for an hour wide awake before getting up again, went downstairs and had a hot drink and an hour on here before going back to bed, still haven't really slept, but I'm working this morning so needed to get up and get organised.
Hugs to those that want/need them x
Happy Birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light, blue sky, sunshine and a frost. Forecast doesn't look too bad, we'll see how it goes.
All the menfolk still fast asleep, DH got back from his long trip yesterday and was home from by 4.30pm - as he'd worked all his available hours, but he was too shattered to go to the hospital, so we've gone back to the original plan of having a quick lunch when I get in from work and then going to the hospital early afternoon.
Dinner last night was chicken and bacon kievs, chips, beans/salad for the menfolk, I had mushroom omlette and salad, ice cream for dessert all enjoyed. Tonight we have southern fried chicken portions, savoury rice, stuffed mushrooms, and side salad.
Did get some of the "to do" list done yesterday, but wasn't particularly productive. I got the food shopping done and seemed yet again to spend a fortune. I visited the big diy store and bought the paint for DS1's bedroom, which we are supposed to be decorating this weekend, but have now moved the wardrobe to find that another wall is most possibly going to need to be re-plastered, so not sure how much is going to get done, I'll be phoning the plasterer to come and give us a quote, had hoped to get away with not getting someone in, but now looks like we don't have a choice. I did get some washing line dried yesterday and all the washing ironed so that's not too bad, I'll put another load on the line shortly.
Not happy with our bank, have checked the online banking this morning and our new mortgage deal is supposed to be effective from 1 May and today they've taken the old amount for the DD out, they don't open the helpdesk telephone line until 9am on a Saturday and of course I'm working today - so can't visit my local branch or telephone as both close at 12 noon, same time as I finish work, but they are open on Sundays' so I'll be ready to phone when they open tomorrow. I'm especially unhappy because I checked in branch that everything was ready to make the change and I spoke to someone on their helpdesk who also assured me everything was in order. Think I'll be asking what compensation they're going to give me.
Have good Saturdays' everyone x
Keep safe and well x

Morning all.
I had a flurry of messages last night from my eldest and middle Sons. Eldest is trying to sort out his Csa payments out for his 3 Sons and needed some info. He's put me in a difficult spot really as I don't really want to get in the middle but each time the 2 parents talk to eachother they argue (well she does) and he just takes it.
Middle Son needs his birth cert. I'm surprised I still have it. I gave him everything of his when he moved out.
Hubby has unfollowed me on Facebook. It appears he took offence at one of my 'likes'. Just in case he starts following me again he's gone on my 'restricted' list. He was in a right grump yesterday which didnt help my mood.
Hoping for a better day.
Onwards and forwards

Good morning chums, there is a strange light in the sky it looks suspiciously like the sun
:):).Fingers crossed it will stay around for awhile.
Last night my nephew phoned to say that my brother Davey is doing a bit better on his chemo, but not eating a great deal. His DD is travelling down to Poitiers to see him on Monday, and fingers crossed she will get him to eat a bit more, she is quite a persuasive lady.
There is talk of moving him to Ruffec to a convalescence place to build him up a bit as he cannot as yet leave hospital.I have everything crossed at the moment
I wish this blessed cold would go so I could visit him though.
Small wash to put on this morning and as the weather seems to be brightening up I think a walk in the local country park may materialise this afternoon.
I had three portions of the delicious beef casserole for the freezer last night plus one for my dinner so its helping to use up my freezer stuff a bit.
Topped up my tank for the month with diesel and as yet no shopping needed.Sorted all my banking and bills for the coming month and I am pleased at how my holiday savings are growing.Only 14 weeks to go until we are off on our annual holiday to Isle of Wight, fingers crossed the weather will be kinder than last year.
Hope everyone has a good bank holiday weekend and the sun shines down on you all
Cheers chums

Good Morning everyone sunny and clear here today but still COLD!!!!!
He Who Knows is off walking the doglet, I am about to launch in on housework etc. and we are having a run out to the farm shop for some fruit and veg this morning I'm finding that potatoes in the local shops are feeling a bit soft in their packets so hope the farm shop will be better at storing spuds.
I've got a spiralizer too and the veg you choose to spiralize needs to be wide enough for the blade to cut a continuous string from, the carrots and courgettes need to be 'clonkers' or you do get the little crescents, they also need to actually be 'round' and not oval or you get the same thing happening. I think spiralizers are not designed for the slimmer and smaller new season veg.
Have yourselves a lovely day, Lyn xxx.0
