Oil filled radiators

I have recently moved into a rented terraced house.

Being an old house it has fairly poor cavity insulation.

We experience a lot of damp which is resolved by opening the upper windows slightly.
Most of the house gets fairly warm with the heating on 2 hours in a morning and 2 hours in the evening.

However, my bedroom, which is the largest does not get warm.

I have an oil filled radiator to help and it does help.

However, I am wondering how much this will cost to run and if it is financially worthwhile.

Its a 2000 watt radiator.

So how much will it cost if I run it for say 1 hour before I go to bed?

Are there cheaper, more effective alternatives I could consider?

Firstly all electrical heating costs the same amount, for the same heat output; so there are no cheaper alternatives.

A 2,000 watt radiator is 2kW, and would use 2kWh(electrical units) to run for an hour; depending on your tariff around 24p.

HOWEVER all electrical heaters of that type will have a thermostat which switches the heating off when the room is at a set temperature. So in practice it will use less than 2kWh. How much less depends on where you set the thermostat and how cold the room.

You might consider getting an electric blanket. My wife and I have been big fans of these for years ...along with an unsheated bedroom. Running costs for say 30 minutes per evening must be very small and it's a really luxurious experience diving into bed on a cold night.
