Garage rear door

The garage in the property we are buying does not have a rear door.
Does anyone know if a planning or building permission is required to have a rear door fitted in?
We have emailed the local council about this and have been informed it takes about 14 days for them to respond to enquiries.
It will be helpful to know if anyone has had this done before and also what the cost might be.
Thanks in advance.

Hmm. I wouldn't be giving the jobsworths any excuse to charge me fees.0

What you need to do is to read this document: (There's quite a lot of it to read)
http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2015/596/schedule/2/made
It's part of the Permitted development rights order.
Basically, you are allowed to carry out any building or building modifications without needing planning permission provided that the work is not specifically prohibited.0 -
Thanks Shaun for the link and explanation. That's helpful.0

I've got a hammer and chisel. Think that's all the permission that I'd need

We have recently had this done, together with lots of other work. Our builder cut out a doorway in the back wall of the garage, inserted a lintel and fitted a upvc half glazed door which had previously been used as the back door to our house. The total cost was around £650 including VAT.
It really has been worth the cost to us as it makes such a difference by adding natural light to the garage and giving us access to it from our back garden and the back of the house, especially as our freezer and tumble drier are kept in there, as well as garden tools etc.
Whilst our builder sought advice from the local council and structural engineers for other work, he didn't for the garage door.
