Floor tile quote

We have 32 m2 kitchen/extension area for laying - we have a separate cost for the tiles including wastage at 35 m2 (which we are happy with) but the builder wants to charge as follows- following us questioning this;

'35m2 at £45 (tillers charge us the gross amount to cover cutting costs) = £1,575 + vat' ie charged a laying fee for the extra 10%..

Is this standard/ fair?! Floor tiles are standard 600x600 and seems wrong we are charged for labour cost on wastage we may not use

    Presumably you want them to cut the tiles when they lay them, so not unreasonable for the extra labour cost of measuring and cutting, which can be quite time-consuming, to be factored in. They are working on a fairly standard 10% allowance for cutting/wastage.
