Empty discounts and surcharges vary by Council. Most are short term at best and if the previous owner has already claimed you cannot claim again.

    Check the local Council website.

Hi mariecc... congratulations on buying a house :)

You usually have to pay Council Tax on an empty homes but you may find that Solihull council will offer you a discount until you move in. The amount is up to them... Contact your council to ask about a discount.

YES you will have to pay council tax from the day you own the property.
Why are you not moving in ?

    http://www.solihull.gov.uk/Resident/Council-tax/discounts

    Long term empty properties
If your property is empty and unfurnished you will have to pay the current 100% charge. An extra 50% will be charged on properties that are empty for 2 years or more. This will be in addition to the current 100% charge.

If the property is empty for more than 2 years you might have to pay 150% Council Tax.
Now if the property has a working Bathroom and Kitchen ( No matter how old) you can get a mortgage on it.
Move in by yourself and you only pay 75% Council Tax!!!
    Camp bed will do
