Empty discounts and surcharges vary by Council. Most are short term at best and if the previous owner has already claimed you cannot claim again.
Check the local Council website.0 -
Hi mariecc... congratulations on buying a house
You usually have to pay Council Tax on an empty homes but you may find that Solihull council will offer you a discount until you move in. The amount is up to them... Contact your council to ask about a discount.0 -
YES you will have to pay council tax from the day you own the property.
Why are you not moving in ?

Long term empty properties
If your property is empty and unfurnished you will have to pay the current 100% charge. An extra 50% will be charged on properties that are empty for 2 years or more. This will be in addition to the current 100% charge.
If the property is empty for more than 2 years you might have to pay 150% Council Tax.
Now if the property has a working Bathroom and Kitchen ( No matter how old) you can get a mortgage on it.
Move in by yourself and you only pay 75% Council Tax!!!
Camp bed will do0
