How to calculate kitchen unit cornicing and pelmet needed

I am about to buy some extra doors for my kitchen wall units and cornicing and pelmet as well. I need to calculate how much cornicing (for the top) and pelmet (for the bottom) I will need to allow for cutting to fit and run round corners.

The cornicing at present is moulded carved Victorian style. Where it goes round corners at present, it is cut at a 45degree angle to join on the corner. The new cupboard doors will be for a run of 1400mm with two corner joins (a 300mm run which joins at two corners and 1100 mm which joins at one corner) and an 1100mm run of pelmet.

Anyone able to explain how to do the calculations? Maths was never my strong point. (I should explain I am buying it second hand so need to tell current owner, who has a number of lengths available, how long the runs I need are.)

The exact length depends on how much the cornice/pelmet protrudes out further than the cabinet - usually at least door thickness, but sometimes more.

Over-estimate by assuming the entire thickness of cornice overhangs the cabinet, and you will need twice the cornice thickness as extra length at each joint.

So for a 1 metre wide 600 mm deep cabinet to be corniced on front and two sides with 25 mm thick cornice you'd need

    1000 + 600 + 600 + 100 mm = 2300 mm.

The 100 mm extra thickness is twice 25 mm per joint, times 2 joints.

Add on 10% for cutting as the ends of cornice etc may be damaged and have to be cut down to exact length.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.
