Arranging car insurance for someone else

My elderly dad has received his car insurance renewal and the premium is excessively high, as is often the case.

So I used a comparison site to get him a much better quote with a different insurer, and he wants to go with that.

The complication is that we live 300 miles apart and he doesn't use the internet, so I would have to arrange the insurance on his behalf without him being present. I'm concerned about the legality of this, as I'd effectively be pretending to be him when I fill in the details.

Does anyone know if this would be breaking any rules?

    Who would know?

Bear in mind that if you impersonate him online and inadvertently give incorrect declarations that when he gets found out it will be no "defence" for him to say that his son filled out the form!

Can't he phone up and buy that way?

You can always do an online quote, call insurance then conference call your dad in. I have done this before.
