    good on you

i see the critics have nothing to say now

Not sure you can really judge the finish quality from a single photo to be honest.

I think the OP was talking about using something like EasySkim, which is ready-mixed and applied straight from the bucket. As a long-time DIYer (40+ yrs) I have taught myself plastering and plastered walls and ceilings with considerable success. I have just used EasySkim for the first time - and it was rubbish!

True, but you will have to take my word for it - The wall is a lot better than it was, and the plaster is pretty smooth. A couple of spots show a trowel mark where I dug the corner in.

Nope. I was always intending to use Thistle Multifinish from the start. A darned sight cheaper than a ready-mix glop. Got another wall that also needs a skim, but this one has a dip of around 5mm from top to bottom - I suspect the plasterer that did the job back in 1930 was either drunk or had no idea what a straight edge was. This wall is going to need quite a bit more plaster on it than can be applied with a roller.

Next job is to try some venetian plastering on a feature wall.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.

I can't see the pics for some reason but it sounds like you pulled it off! Nice one and you've prompted me to have another go on a wall that needs doing.

    Thank you!
DH has been having a go at some plastering and has been doing a not bad job but it's been taking so long and the finish isn't great (though he gets upset if I say this to him). Now have another whole room that needs doing and we will definitely give this a go.
