EDF meter not working, what to do?
Recently noticed that my electricity meter has not been working for some time as the numbers have not changed in awhile. So I checked all the old bills and it seems that it stopped over a year ago. However, within this period I have continued to pay my bills based on the estimated readings by EDF. I am thinking of calling EDF to come check the meter but have some concerns:
1. Will I have to pay for it to be repaired?
2. Will they try to charge me more on the basis that the meter wasn't working for more than a year? They can't prove I used more energy than estimated, and I have no intention of proving I used less than estimated as that's just not possible.
3. Will stop renting this place in August, so is it better to just leave it be? Or will EDF come chasing for more money when the next tenant notices the meter is faulty?
I have had bad experiences with EDF harrassing me to pay bills that have just arrived so I'm wary about what course of action to take. Thank you for any advice!

Hi,
if meter is faulty it will be replaced free of charge.
When new meter is installed they may ask for meter readings every week or so, then bill you accordingly, or may just go on your past usage.
I would think that things will work out in your favour.
Contact them and tell them.0 -
Let them know by some means that leaves you with a copy - their online chat facility would do, as you can email yourself copy of it, or just copy and paste from the screen before you terminate the chat. They will probably get the meter changed and stick to the estimates they've already used for billing.
Assuming there's no obvious damage to the meter, I don't see them trying to charge you for its replacement.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. I would bet that the OP has an old Sangamo Weston analogue meter which quite often stops when the 3rd and 4th digits are on 99 .It can then drop down a blank digit ( where from I ve no idea ! ) which stops the meter. To restart this meter, give it a good solid thump on the side, or better still do as you re supposed to do and report it to the supplier. The meter has nothing to do with the OP and will have nothing to pay. When the suppliers estimate a stopped meter they usually err on the customers side and they get a good deal from it0

you're a regular poster, and talk sense most of the time.
In a lot of your posts you use a space, I ve, rather than I've, does your apostrophe key not work?0 -

Thanks. Frugal , yes I`m a lazy b****r I admit to not bothering about a bloody apostrophe, I`ve read that some people have a fixation about them. Mind you, in your short post before that I noted a few grammar/spelling mistakes. Starting a sentence without a capital letter is very annoying, as is the lack of a comma now and again..only joking..I could `nt give a monkeys about grammar so long as I get the gist.0 -

if you are so observant you will notice that I start all my posts with 'Hi,'
notice the , (comma) after Hi,
then I may add a quote or continue with a comment.
Can you point out the grammar/spelling mistakes in my previous post or was it just my comment that 'you're a regular poster, and talk sense most of the time'.
I see that you are now using the apostrophe, but annoyingly putting a space before the next letter.
Can you spot the mistakes in your quoted post, I've highlighted them in red to help.0 -
Hi Frugal,
You ve edited the mistakes now lol, Im going back to my old ways thanks. Please don t bother correcting my grammar again mate if you don t mind. If you don t like it..lump it ! I m not keen on pedants.0 -

you shouldnt be giving any meter a thump, if they have loose connections this won't help0
