    Awwww, Melissa!

My SW18 flat (4th floor, 2 bed) contents are with Lloyds TSB - premium was £108 and I got £120 cashback (so they paid me to have the cover!) :j

Are you too late to get a Lloyds quote?!

I have fourteen days to cancel, so I guess not!

I already have buildings cover - just keen to protect my contents.

I'll have a look - tho Lynz points out that Lloyds have dropped it now.

    Thanks guys!

However, how does the cashback work? Do I get 120 pounds back physically in my bank account, and how does Quidco track this? There is no record of this Natwest transaction in my "Earnings" folder in Quidco.

    Hi Melissa,

Yes you will (eventually) get £115 back in your bank account (there is a £5 annual fee for quidco which will be deducted),
To set your back account details you will need to go to settings.
It does take months because quidco have to be paid first and then pass it on to you.

Quidco track it by the use of cookies (electronic ones not the ones you eat :-).
There can be problems for example if your browser is set up to not allow cookies.
Keep checking you earnings folder and if it doesn't arrive in say a week you may want to cancel the policy.

Quidco are pretty good IMO but there can be technical hitches.

Hi-remember that if this your first insurance you will not have many discoumts appled. For example NIG Direct apply 5% for good locks/ up to 30% for no contents claims/up to 30% for no buildings claims and 17.5% for buying both buildings and contents together. By the way , they also give home emergency and legal cover as standard. Their price should drop the next year as discounts increase, whereas a lot of other companies give introductory discounts that disappear after the first year. Anyway good luck finding the cover you need.

however, we have no legal cover with that, nor do we have anything like cover for the freezer breaking down and losing food, or cover for losing anything outside of the house( eg mobiles) really we are on the cheapest bog standard policy we could find.

That really is a rubbish policy then! Fair point on mobiles (thats personal possessions) but not covering freezer food? Thats standard on the majority!

I've taken out contents insurance only with churchill, total premium was only £74. It inlcudes accidental cover to electrical entertainment units as well which is quite nice! (although in conjunction with my company and others, they've dropped a clanger by not specifically excluding modern mobile phones that the FOS is known to have varied opinions on.
  • Forgot to mention - your date of birth can also have an effect on your premium, so yours will normally be more expensive than your Mum's.

(I guess the theory is that us young 'uns own HD-TVs and Wiis and forget to lock our back doors. Oh, and host wild house parties!)
