Hi we are thinking of a short break to Boston 31 dec - 6 Jan to take advantage of cheap flights during some annual leave I have. I know there is quite a bit to do in Boston and the surrounding area but due to the time of year we are now wondering whether everything will be shut up for the holidays - museums, tours, shops etc?
Would love to hear from others who have been this time of year.
Many thanks

I went over new year to see in 2000. There was a huge arts festival with a large number of venues taking part - a bit like the edinburgh festival. I don't recall anything being closed. This link describes last year's event http://www.firstnight.org
When I went they were building a new ring road which disrupted the city as well but this should now be finished and make travelling a lot easier.
Also see the City of Boston website http://www.cityofboston.gov/visitors/thingstodo.asp.
It was very cold when we went. 1st thing we did was buy fleece type balaclavas.0 -
Hi there
I've been to Boston over that time and it really is lovely
Definitely bring your woolies as it can be really cold and wet.
New Years Eve is lovely, they have a thing called first night http://www.firstnight.org/ where there are lots of activities and things happening.
We started of in Boston Common for the Ice sculptures and the early firework show and then walked down to Copley Square to see more ice sculptures and a concert. Ended up at Boston Harbour for the midnight fire works. Great atmosphere.
New years day is a bit quiet as people just relaxing. I didn't find places closed the other days though. You should just check closer to the time http://www.cityofboston.gov/freedomtrail/
This site tells you whats happening in places as well http://boston.going.com/.
There are always things happening in Boston so you don't have to worry about that, only thing is the legendary Duck tours won't be operating (April - Sept)
Any questions you have about anything let me know:dance:0 -
Things might close early on News years eve but surprisingly some places are open on New Years day but the rest of the days..act as normal days
So no worries.
