Reclaim Bristol & West PPI

I hope someone can hep me with this?

I had a mortgage with Bristol and West from 2002 - 2007. I am self employed so destroy all paperwork after seven years. A few months ago I came across my original mortgage deed in my house deeds file. This was a great find as I now have my B&B Account No.

I have downloaded the PPI claim form from MSE....thankyou......but this is where I have halted. I know that Bristol and West were taken over by the Bank of Ireland. So who do I send the claim to? Do Bristol and West actually exist and if I'm owed PPI who is responsible?

Many thanks in advance

    No one is "owed" PPI.

If you had PPI policy (you don't say whether you did), you need to be able to show it was somehow mis-sold to you.

PPI policies attached to mortgages definitely cover self employed people.

In addition, the likelihood that PPI (if you had any) was mis-sold is significantly reduced if it was attached to a mortgage as it covers a significant investment which could cause life-altering consequences if you were unable to pay.

As to who you write to, I can't offer any solid help with that, but in the first instance you could write to Bank Of Ireland.

The first thing you must establish is whether you actually had PPI!

Lots of Bristol and West mortgages were arranged by brokers. Was yours?

As mentioned above, there is now owing or anything. You make a complaint stating your reasons for complaint and the firm looks at your complaint and decides if it is valid or not.

Who sold your PPI? The building society, the estate agent, a mortgage broker or financial adviser?
    What wrongdoing did they do?

Bristol and West plc still exists, and is a member of the Bank of Ireland Group, but all Bristol & West plc mortgages were transferred to Bank of Ireland on 1st October 2007.

Wouldn't the first step be to establish whether or not you had any PPI arranged through B&W? Mere possession of the account number is insufficient.
