    Have you reported matters to HSE? You have a duty, and you have morals, plus a sense of fair play and decency. it is no good saying you have reported to others.

    We bought a TW house 3 years ago. Overall we've been really pleased with the house, few snags when we moved in but they were all sorted in good time.

    We bought one last October.
    Happy enough with the house quality, happy enough with Taylor Wimpey fixing anything i'd class as a bigger problem. When it comes to low to medium level snags they are shocking - you need time and a lot of persistence to get things sorted. Senior management don't really give a s____, I've been right up to the chief exec and you basically get a mini burst of effort for each complaint but even then they can't see things through properly.

    Also had the cracking ceiling issue. I researched it online, and at least taylor wimpey as a company seem to have identified the problem and solution whereas other builders seem to try bodged fixes leaving people in a battle with NHBC involved. For the scale of work done I was happy with the contractor, wasn't 100% perfect but to rip out half a house when inhabited without leaving a little durt or splash paint is pretty unlikely.

    We bought a Taylor Wimpey in July and we're one of the first houses on their 'new improved customer care journey' as they try to achieve a 5 star rating.


    Our house ahs been a nightmare from the start. Problems appear to stem from head office with poor to non-existent communication, incorrect plans, incorrect information, terrible build quality, appalling attitude from managers and just the general impression that they don't feel any responsibility to do a decent job. We paid for a through snagging (illustrated with pictures) and it appears 2 1/2 months on items are still unaddressed as "she seemed happy" and I wasn't nagging them. My mistake was I assumed the person in charge of our purchase would organise everything but I was supposed to be project managing. Really hoping we at least have fully functioning central heating before it gets any colder.


    If you are thinking of buying with Taylor Wimpey I would recommend ... DON'T. If you really have to then:
    1) Get EVERYTHING in writing so they can't deny it later. If necessary take a notebook and get the rep/site manager to sign and date your notes
    2) Take pictures of all the plans they show you so that if they turn out to be wrong (as happened with us) you have proof of what you agreed to buy. And don't assume if they amend them they'll get it right 2nd time around, didn't work for us.
    3) All the extras are extortionate so avoid if necessary. If you do buy visit to check they are correct (we had wardrobes in completely wrong places)
    4) Don't assume the site manager you talk to/ arrange issues with will be around after the end of the week ( we had 3 in 4 weeks and information disappeared)
    5) Get a FULL snagging report from a good company BEFORE moving in
    6) Don't assume any wiring or plumbing is sound, check it all (we've had nails through wires and multiple leaks) as a snagging report may not find the issues
    7) Check all tiling for cracksand breaks
    8) It appears contractors get paid per job and rush to finish early. So the dents and waves and knobbles on your walls and ceiling may not look bad now but will really annoy in years to come when painted
    9) Most woodwork seems to have dust, debris and hair in it
    10) If you are given info that seems weird don't assume they know what they are talking about. We've experienced people getting completely wrong (blagging) on important legal issues.
    11) If you are told something is included do not believe it unless it is written down and signed.


    That's just a brief list of the issues we've had. Some of the staff are fantastic and unfortunately they get the fall out from the people who can't do their job effectively or with respect ... in my opinion.

    Oh and don't buy a Taylor Wimpey if you like using an upstairs bathroom without the people below hearing every plop and splash in perfect detail.
  • I bought a TW flat in 2009.

    Generally the finish was poor, although it looked nice. There were some incredibly basic internal errors and over the years TW did contact buyers to fix them (or we reported the issues as and when they came up). Even really basic things like my washer/dryer was plumbed in wrong so boiling hot water entered the machine, meaning I was washing at very high temperatures for years. And there were issues with the extraction systems in the flat for both ventilation as well as the boilers, meaning the ceilings had to be cut up.

    On top of that, there were a HUGE amount of external issues and we had to pay a fortune to hire a 3rd party to inspect it and help us remedy. We endured a 20 min slide show from an expert showing us all the problems. Scaffolding was put up and around 2.5 years later, unbelievably, it is still there (I agreed a sale on it a year ago when the scaffolding was "coming down soon") but it's still there right now.

    Absolutely disgusting and I although I know the actual workmen would be different, I'd avoid them out of principle in the future. The enjoyment of my home was ruined for years by ugly scaffolding and attending residents meetings.

    Sturgeon, that's awful. We've had such an awful time I'm very tempted to go to the local press (someone there who loves getting at developers) but I'm scared it'll impact if we decide to try and sell to get away from this place.
