OK, I have more clarity now after reading your replies.
In sum, we're the ones being @**holes.
And I take it on the chin. I honestly do and will take comments on board and make a decision today. It did help.0 -

<grin> No, I wouldn't go anywhere NEAR that far! I think you're focussing on your own situation, which is absolutely fair enough, and forgetting that there are several others being affected too.And I take it on the chin. I honestly do and will take comments on board and make a decision today. It did help.
Good for you.0 -

I hope you didn't get that impression from me, it wasn't my intention!
I completely get that you have to think of yourself first, but the housebuilders at the top of the chain won't shift and will decide to announce a completion date with 2 weeks notice whenever they feel like, this is unfortunately how they work. They are the real @holes, but there isn't much you can do!!
Hope everything goes well for you0 -
It's always painful when you know you have overlap, we had the same. It is worth checking with your mortgage company though, as our first payment was lower than the usual sum due to the date the mortgage started and therefore the "hit" on the overlap wasn't quite so hard to take - though we did very much have to take it on the chin too!
Unfortunately, it is one of the challenges when trying to plan a move from rented into your own home. Wishing you the best of luck, and hoping that all goes well for you! The short term pain will definitely be worth it to be in your own home!0 -
If it were me is just want the whole thing done out of the way.
I'd have to live with the consequences of overlap. I wouldn't want it all falling apart now for the sake of arguing over a possible additional weeks rent. If it falls apart now you've already spent much more than that and you'd have to start the process all over again!Current Mortgage 01.10.17 £113,513.88
MFW Start Mortgage: £114,794.64
Current MED: 2036:eek: Target MED: 2026
Overpayment Target for remainder of 2017: £2,000
Mortgage overpayment savings: £684.80
MFW No 124 :money:0 -
Another way to look at the overlap - is - the earlier you start paying the mortgage the earlier it will end (even just a month earlier) - so look forward to June 2040 when you will have no mortgage payment to make!, where as if you didn't overlap it would be July 2040!!
*or whatever end month you have for your mortgage!0 -
I agreed to developers suggestion of week starting 16th May and gave two dates.
Now I'm told several people on the chain are on holiday on different dates in May and a possible day of 8th June was given.
Which is great for us. But, excuse me while I go over there to have a minor heart attack.0 -
That's great but unless there's a very good reason, in your position, I'd be saying I would do ANY date. Rather than keep on giving two dates ... If everyone in the chain gave just two dates then potentially everyone could give different dates to each other and there's still no consensus!0

Yes, I did that in the end. Whatever date, is fine. (Confession, we thought we had to take time off work to sign paperwork on completion day - totally silly, I know, but after living abroad for 14 years and that's how it was, our head was set on that). No one realised our mistake until today. :embarasse:embarasse:embarasse
The chain has not asked the developer yet though.
As far as I was aware everyone in the chain (except developer) was OK for any day in May. But now it seems they're all on holiday on different dates in May. We just want to exchange now. We'll go with the flow from here.0
