Scam Letter By HMRC

It all seems genuine enough to me having worked for DWP. All post goes through post handling centres in the Midlands, mainly Wolverhampton. The 'Office Manager' bit is pretty standard too. Some staff sign letters if they generate them manually, I never did. If the paper is a dirty off-white colour it's almost certainly genuine because DWP offices have to use recycled paper and that crappy stuff is the cheapest.
If you are unsure, call DWP on the number shown on any other letters you have received from them.0 -

I know this is an old post, but for anyone else checking, that is the correct address for the Pensions Service (omitting spelling error).I thought it was very odd to be asked to send my bank details to the DHS through the post, it all sounded a bit iffy to me. The "from"adress is a call handling centre, and the return envelope it to a call handling center, the bottom of the letter says "Yours sincerely" and just below that is "Office Manager" but no name or signiture between the two, there's other "iffy" stuff too. I haven't filled it in and I wonder should this letter be handed to the police, I see the scam has been going on for some time and they have got hold of some very important personal details such as my NI number! All this imformation can be sold a fake identity! and if anyone falls for this letetr and sends the info to the so called DHS they could lose everthing they have in the bank:mad:

I assume the letter didn't say DHS!
What was the return address on your letter?0 -
What's the DHS?0

Presumably mean DHSS, the old Department of Health and Social Security. When I worked for DWP some of the older staff still referred to it as DSS, and other variants, so it's not surprising that some contributors use old terms too.0 -

Thanks. Had heard of DSS but not DHS or DHSS. Showing my age! :rotfl:0 -

Imagine how confused the police will be if Pauline makes a complaint about the DHS and then turns up with a proper DWP letter!0 -

There are spelling mistakes galore in the system generated letters but apparently it would be too expensive to correct it! At one time letters from some parts of the Pension Service had an address on which was years out of date. Again too expensive to fix, but mitigated according to management by sending out return envelopes with the correct address. Fine of course if you only ever have to send stuff back when you have a return envelope.0
