Gas Supplier Mix Up

As it stands I owe Edf over £7000, They have said I 'should' only have to pay for the last 12 months, that is yet to be confirmed. I have paid british gas around 2/3 of this if that (my account with them is up to date). I could be put-out by a lot, I do not have the extra funds to cover the Edf bill should they decide they want the full bill repaid. My concern in this whole situation is that I will be owing money for an error that's not mine!
EDF think you owe £7000 for 6 years of Gas, you have paid BG ~£4700 for the same period.
If you get £4700 back from BG, and pay EDF for the 12 months due to back billing error (~£1200), then you are set to gain ~£3500.
Without back billing you would stand to lose ~£2300.
Since the error is not due to you or anything you did (only BG, EDF, & the IGT), I don't see why you should be involved at all. It's their mess, they should be cleaning it up!0
