Sky Router

I recently had to wait ages for Sky to replace my router when it died after just a few months' use. Now I'm worried about being offline for ages again if my new router goes the way of the old one. Sky say they can't sell me a router to keep as a spare because they have individual security settings built into them

Is there a way of getting the security settings out of my new Sky router and using them with a router I can buy elsewhere?

  • Yes there is.

I got the username and password from my Sky router using this utility programme->

Once I had the username and password I could put these into my Belkin router and it worked fine.

I think I originally got that utility programme on the skyuser website so compliments to them for that.
  • Buying spare routers just in case is a bit OTT, I'd worry about it if/when it happens.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

Thanks Dave I'll give that a try.

I used to think like you, but then I had to spend a month without broadband while Sky kept failing to send out the replacement router they'd promised.

Isn't it sensible to try to get the security details out of the Sky router now so I can put them in a new one of my own if necessary? If I wait until it's broken it'll be too late!
  • I misread your post, I thought you were intending to buy a spare router now. The odds of getting two faulty ones is pretty slim.
