IVA charges refund?

Hi
My husband & I entered individual IVAs in Nov 2007. We made a full and final settlement in Dec 2010.
We've just received a letter from a company called 'Consumer Audit Office' telling us that we may be due a return of charges paid by us.
Has anybody heard of this company please? If so are they genuine?
Many thanks
PastChild

I found this which might be their website:

    www.consumerauditoffice.co.uk

I can't read any of their information without signing up though which seems dubious. As DorisTrousers says, it's best to avoid them.

  • I've had a similar letter from them, anyone else know definitively whether they are dodgy or not? I'm probably going to assume they are unless I hear otherwise.

You will not be entitled to any refunds, but if you want to get a 100% answer, send the letter to your IP for their comment.
  • I received one of these letters too and was wondering if it's real or a scam.
The letter includes a Freephone number to call: 0800 677 1070 and a website address: "consumerauditoffice.co.uk"
The company I used for my IVA were appalling, so it'd be nice to think I could claim some of the charges back BUT I'm sceptical!
  • Do any of these letters give any other details?

    Address, company reg number etc?

This seems to be a very secretive organisation, which will lead to some drawing their own conclusions, however further digging may be interesting.

There’s a thread here with people asking similar questions about an organisation called the Consumer Advisory Service.

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5449114

Their website is strikingly similar to the Consumer Audit Office website.

    www.consumeradvisoryservice.co.uk
    www.consumerauditoffice.co.uk

In that thread fermi points out various issues with the website such as:

    “No company trading address shown.
No authorisation from FCA or MoJ, one of which would be required at least for this sort of thing.
    No data protection registration
Website registered to an individual in a terraced house in Manchester.”

I suspect the same will apply here.

  • I've received a letter today and took the plunge and called them (i wasn't scared :rotfl:)

basically, it sounds like they are scouts for creditline to see if they can squeeze out any more PPI for the banks that was under the iva.

it works on the no win no fee basis. I did say that my IVA company (grant thornton) had claimed most of the PPI but under new T&C's that i agreed on, the statutory interest on all the claimed PPI's would be returned back to me in which i am yet to see a penny and i have been cleared for at 3 years.

When i contacted them, they said "forget about it now but one day when you receive the cheque, consider it as a bonus"

This is not acceptable as clearly we agreed on it but it was to get the IVA completed quicker.
