Barclays cheque clearance times

I've been a customer of Barclays for many years and used their online banking since it was introduced.
Over time I've paid in many cheques, and as per mailing received from the bank years ago have been able to draw on them instantly, so long as I was happy they'd clear with no problems (ie from my Mum). They've always showed as available on my online account.
Friday last, and again on Monday, I paid in 2 cheques iro Sentinel refunds - one from Barclaycard, the other from TSB (I think). Total just under £800. Neither of them have cleared yet, but neither am I able to spend on them as they're not showing (except as paid in) on my online account.
Has anyone else noticed this? I'm going to spend the cash I have left in my account later today, it will be interesting to see if it then shows me as o/d.

Seems extreme - which savings account providers will (reliably and predictably) get a new account opened and send out cards and PINs (or online access credentials) faster than it takes for a cheque to clear in an existing bank account?
1) Faster cheque clearance in house savings account.
2) ID counter withdrawl.
3) Established customer, easier account opening for future leading or existing customer products or taking advantage of any products merits as per customer changing needs.SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You managed not to answer the question posed and point 3 seems to be random words.0 -

I pointed out the 3 positives to a savings account, which as a bank employee you knew. You also knew I answered it.
For clarification of doubt...
The question asked is not relevant to be answered directly when point 1 states 'ID counter withdrawl', which as you know does not need a card, pin, internet login, just photo ID and a supervisor/manager approvals over the floor cap amount/s.
I apologise on point 3 if you fail to grasp it, I shall try and write in laymans terms in future.SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... To further clarify, are you saying that it is quicker to clear a cheque by opening a savings account with your bank and then withdrawing over the counter?0 -

Is that what you mean by 'in-house savings account'?
In my (admittedly little) experience cheques do not clear quicker nowadays by paying a (for example) Santander cheque into a Santander account. Which banks do you find clear cheques quicker?0 -

My RBS cheque was paid into my dads RBS account 10am and was available after mid day on day 3
RBS state 5 days for cheques in general, but 8 full business days minimum where cheque cannot be recalled.

Okay. That's handy to know.
Do you really find it worthwhile to open a new account just to clear a cheque though?0
