can you afford not to .. ive always protected my no claims, and it came in handy when my car was pranged in a hit and run.. no one to claim from so i had to claim from my insurers.. would have wacked up my premium if i hadnt got the protection
and more than insurance are giving liftetime no claims with there policys might be worth while checking them out next time your policy due.. i did and found them out to be the cheapest anywayThose we love don't go away,They walk beside us every day,Unseen, unheard, but always near,
Still loved, still missed and very dear
Our thoughts are ever with you,Though you have passed away. And those who loved you dearly,
Are thinking of you today.0 -
Well I've renewed and have protected my NCD again. Got quite a good price from Privilege. :cool:0

Just a word of caution about lifetime NCDs. I think that this issue was raised in another discussion thread. What would the impact be if you decide to shop around and change insurers in the future? Would the new insurer have to take into account "x" number of incidents during your previous period of insurance.
However, I do agree that protecting your NCD makes good sense, if you afford the additional cost. While it adds cost in the short term, it does give you greater certainty about premiums in the longer term.0 -
One word of caution.
Protecting your no claims is fine if you intend to stay with the same company.
If you have an accident and then go to another company for your insurance you will be obliged to inform them of any accidents in the last 5 years. They may not accept that you have x number of years no claims because you have had an accident, so if you go elsewhere you could end up paying the same as if you hadn't protected them at all.
It's another case of swings and roundabouts!
Also bear in mind insurance companies may find other excuses to up your premium without mentioning the words "no claims discount" so even if they are protected you could still end up paying more if you've have an accident!Debt 2007 £17k
Current Debt approx £7.5k
Target - to pay off all debts by 2020 :A0 -

Isn't there a cut off as to how many claims you can make before the you lose the NCB?
I'm not entited to a NCB as this is my first car (even though I've been qualified for 7yrs!) I feel like I've been treated as someone as who's moved insurers as have an accident. Mind you the premium came down this year as no claims were made. I have to be insured for 4yrs before I can get an NCB.:idea:I got an idea, an idea so smart my head would explode if I even began to know what I was talking about:idea:0 -

Yes, standard to have a maximum number of claims in an insurance period, even with a protected NCD. My own policy allows 2 claims without penalty and then a sliding scale of NCD reduction applies for further claims.0
