Hi,
Has anyone got this before? A guy at the CAB office said you don't get it if you get any benefits is that true? He said its only for people with absolutely no money at all.

That is broadly true. Benefits paid purely for children may be disregarded, but receipt of DLA/PIP, CA or similar benefits will often mean the STBA is refused. There is nothing to stop you putting in a request though.0 -
So, if your getting ESA and you have a family breakdown and require 500 quid for a deposit for your own place as housing benefit takes 30 days to get you will be refused?0

You certainly wouldn't get a Short Term Benefit Advance for that purpose. STBA is intended to tide a claimant over until their first benefit payment becomes due.
I don't know if things like budgeting loans are available to help in that kind of situation.0 -
Information on budgeting loans here

Might also be worth a word with your local council. Ours has a bond scheme for those who don't have deposits, for example0 -
Also, speak to your Council about a discretionary housing payment - this can take a while but I think they can help with advance rent / deposits. Good luck.0

Might also be worth looking to see if there is a charity you could apply for a grant from.
Try https://www.turn2us.org.uk/Find-Benefits-GrantsAlice Holt Forest situated some 4 miles south of Farnham forms the most northerly gateway to the South Downs National Park.0
