I received a quote from a small local company we have used previously, the quote doesn't state the amount of man hours involved or an hourly rate and is for the following work:
* Service intruder alarm
* Supply and replace triple wall switch
* Disconnect and make safe external garden lighting (fittings to be removed by ourselves once made safe)
* Disconnect and make safe shed power at source (fittings to be removed by ourselves once made safe)
* Supply and replace existing PIR floodlight with 20W PIR floodlight
* Supply and fit inc wiring 20W PIR floodlight to side eleveation
* Supply and fit IP65 rated twin RCD socket to side elevation
* Supply and replace existing kitchen under cabinet lights with two LED under cabinet lights
The quoted price is £540 inc VAT. Does that sound reasonable? Thanks in advance

* Service intruder alarm ( that can take time but I suspect there not an approved alarm installer so 30.mins blowing out crude from sensor walk test and play with sounder )- Supply and fit inc wiring 20W PIR floodlight to side eleveation (that depends on distance materials used)
* Supply and fit IP65 rated twin RCD socket to side elevation (as above)

To be honest 1day would do it all ? if they faff about 2
Price seems high0 - Supply and fit inc wiring 20W PIR floodlight to side eleveation (that depends on distance materials used)

probably about £80 of parts all together, difficult to say on labor, how long to service alarm? small system or huge complex one?
other jobs probably about £200 labor. Some electricians do charge a lot and get away with it. If the alarm service is a quick check then its expensive.Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.0 -
Little tip Size of systems irrelevant if there not approved the service will mean diddlyMr.Generous wrote: »probably about £80 of parts all together, difficult to say on labor, how long to service alarm? small system or huge complex one?

£80 wouldn't be close to the materials bill for that job.Mr.Generous wrote: »probably about £80 of parts all together
An IP rated SRCD for a start could be £30 or substantially more depending on make.0 -
Thanks for the replies, you confirmed what I was thinking.
It's a very small alarms system, only 1 door sensor and 3 PIR's. They charged £80 for the service two years ago and that included replacing a battery.
The distance of wiring is short, I want the external socket pretty much straight through the wall from the main supply and the new security light is on the same wall.
I had a quick look on screwfix and I could get the materials (less the wiring) for under £120, that wasn't choosing the cheapest items either but wasn't sure which brands to buy/avoid.0
