Best Place for Clutch Replacement?

Good afternoon.

I've a Mark 7 Ford Fiesta Zetec TDCI (late 2008) and I've a feeling my clutch is going to fail within the next couple of months.

Obviously it's going to be a costly sum but discounting the likes of Kwik Fit & Halfords etc who'd be the best place to get it sorted out?

Cheers!

Your best bet is going to be a decent local independent mechanic. Ask friends / neighbours / local community Facebook group who they recommend, and try that.

The bite point seems to be a lot higher than when I first bought the car second hand last November.

I tend not to struggle with hill starts but for whatever reason (just lately) I'm getting it wrong and stalling the car.

Thanks for the advice thus far, I appreciate it

The bite point will change over time as the clutch wears, but this in itself is not a sign of imminent failure. A good test is to find a safe bit of road, get up to about 40 mph or so in top gear, then floor the throttle. If the engine speeds up without the speed increasing, this is the clutch slipping - when that happens it's likely to be close to failure.

    Cheers Ebe.

Wish I were more mechanically minded; when I get chance I'll try it out.

This wouldn't work on my polo 1.2 tdi BM... it never had the power to accelerate in 5th at 40mph when it rolled off the production line :rotfl:

I had one done at Mr. Clutch a long time ago but was an unbelievably good price. They did try and sell me some flywheel grinding and then said my links were worn when it didn't select gears too well after they had finished the job (just needed adjustment) but other than that it was a clutch change for little more than the cost of the parts. Clutch was fine once I had adjusted the linkage.

They are a chain so there are good and not so good Mr Clutch outlets; you'd need to check reviews before going.

Well I've tried throttling my car in 4th gear at 40mp/h this morning and the speedo did rise so that's something!

I'll just keep an eye on it... I'm probably looking for something that isn't there.
