Yes, you need to pay it back.

If you cannot repay it immediately, make arrangements with them to pay it back at a more suitable pace.

You have not been disadvantaged by this , in fact you were better off as the money you had earmarked to repay via D/D was not taken from your account; add to this that the positive balance has meant you have paid less interest than you would have otherwise, I fail to see why you cannot give authority for them to redebit your card.

OP take care here if you play silly beggars you may find they restrict the use of the card.

I think that if a credit card account of mine suddenly received a large unexplained payment which put the account £900 in credit I would have called the credit card provider immediately.
The fact that you found it necessary to call other credit card providers to ask them if you had made a balance transfer calls into question your ability to manage your finances. How could you not know?
Surely you realised that spending the money was not a good idea.
Not sure how asking for your credit report is going to help to explain anything especially as the credit card provider has now written to you stating that it was their error.
You will have to repay this money. Refusing to give your consent to having the amount re-debited to your credit card account in these circumstances is not a good idea. In fact, I doubt that your consent is even required.
Also, as jonesMUFC has pointed out, what has happened has been to your benefit.
