Curtains and sizing?

We need cheap curtains for our second bedroom which we have just decorated (thanks to some sound advice concerning paint on this forum).
I am a little confused about the sizing.
The curtain track is 90" wide, and I know that we want a 54" drop, but when you buy curtains, let us say 66" width - is that for one curtain or the pair?
If it is for one curtain, then I am guessing 132" would be fine for our track?

They come in pairs. Usually reckon 1.5 times the track length as a minimum curtain width. 2x is better. You should be just ok with two 66" curtains.

If a pair of curtains is advertised as, for example, 90x54, that means the width of each curtain is approx 90" and the drop is 54"

As it is recommended to get a set approx double the opening size (so they meet nicely in the middle and don't look too skinny when open) if your window measures 90" then get that width.

If you're getting eyelet style then you can afford to go a bit skinnier but if pencil pleat it's best if they are generous as the strings in the heading tape are meant to be pulled to the correct width.

For cheap plain curtains I recommend Argos - great value for money.

If you'd prefer a pattern then Dunelm have an amazing selection. You can buy online if there isn't a store near you. I find their stuff excellent quality and they have a brilliant choice of modern and traditional designs.

Thanks for all the advice, I will look into Argos curtains in the 66" or 90" width.

2x fullness is the minimum recommended for pencil pleat. You can go lower with eyelet but as you have a track I expect you'll be using pencil pleat. Anything under 2x will look odd.

90" wide you'd want 90" per curtain minimum. (180" total width).
