finding out more about an area.

Options
Hi,

Just seeing if someone might be able to point me in the direction of some info.

We currently have a shared ownership apartment in Stockport and having just had a baby we are thinking about buying a 3 bed house. In Stockport this is proving quite hard to find one within our budget and so we are looking at other parts of Manchester. I know everywhere has its good and bad parts but just wondering if there is a site that gives impressions on individual areas? I found a site called ilivehere...but it seems to just focus on bad points of every area. There is a top 10 list...but only of the worst places to live? :rotfl:

Anyway we have seen a few houses in and around Mossley area and just trying to find out what the area is like to live in and bring up children. The schools seem to all be rated good or outstanding according to rightmove.

Thanks

As a rough and ready there's this

    http://apps.opendatacommunities.org/showcase/deprivation

It kind of tallies around me with where I'd want to live, although obviously it's drawing sweeping conclusions ('deprived' doesn't automatically equal bad, and a friend of mine lives in a very well-to-do village brought down on that map by the neighboruing village)

Seems accurate enough to my observations of my local area.

I find Zoopla good in that it tells you about the area, its safety, andwhat facilities are nearby

I've found illustreets to be a very good starting point and then look at the per street statistics with police.uk when looking at a specific property. I think it might be based on 2014 data but it matches my own local knowledge reasonably well.

    illustreets dot co dot uk/explore-england/

Someone may need to make that a proper link for me or you can just Google illustreets and you should find it easily enough.
