holiday company misadvertising !!!

A couple of apparently reputable holiday companies appear to be mis advertising, and I wondered where you stand.
"Hotelopia" and "On the Beach" both have hotels advertised with "children free"
checked the terms and conditions and nothing about limited places etc.
When you try to book for example the Iberostar Torviscas Playa - Tenerife
Feb 2008
2 adults only costs £940
2 adults plus 1 child costs £1200
therefore child approx half price £260
Is there any point in trying to pursue and get the free child place?

Hi mrt,
There are many of us on the Travel Board who know Hotelopia very well! Do you have a link to the free child places advertisement, so we can see exactly what it says? I can't find anything on the home page (although I have had far too much wine!).
Edit: Sorry, found it on the listing! xGone ... or have I?0 -
Hmmn, I can't find any limitations either.
Hotelopia (who don't really like MSE'rs very much - many of us had (several) free holidays off them earlier this year) are very good at making up excuses for things. I would guess that they would say something like, the child place in the room is free, the £260 covers the cost of the meals.
Either that or they'll send you some reply in Spanish ... xGone ... or have I?0 -
Have just had a look at a few more examples on Hotelopia, and they really do vary!
I think they will hide behind their terms and conditions, where they state that each hotel has a different policy etc etc. However, there is no harm in sending them an email and seeing what you get back (and in what language you get your reply!) xGone ... or have I?0 -
Have they been sold ? It says on the home page "part of TUI" When you click their newsletter sample it says "Part of First Choice"

A sample reply from Hotelopia:pHola, Gracias para contacta Hotelopia.
Si, la Habitacion para ninos es gratis, pero, la comida es muy caro0 -
have you tried www.travelrepublic.co.uk www.thomson.co.uk (hotel section) or running it through www.hotelscomparison.com
for 1 week anytime in Feb Thomsons want £676-£617 for a room 2+1 HB +cash back via quidco I think its 7% on hotel only which makes its £628.68 for the most expensive weekor £573.81 for the cheapest week
Budget...http://www.tuitravelplc.com/tuitravel/ I was hoping the monoploys would step in but they didnt
Now Thomas Cook have MyTravel as well glad I dont do packages anymore they are just going to get more expensive and we will see more cases of price fixing IMHOIf you look anything like your passport photo....Your too ill to travel0 -

No, they were part of First Choice at the time of the EJH fun and games, they just hid it a lot better! I managed to get my Marrakech trip refunded by writing to First Choice head office.
I do miss it ... xGone ... or have I?0 -
Thanks for the replies, phoned Hotelopias ( 0870 - 10p per minute ) and on the phone about 10 minutes then also sent them an email.
The first email response said that if you book with 2 children, then the first was free.
I did I nice reply and pointed out the details and this was incorrect, then I recieved a response saying sorry, the first email was a mistake and my question would be referred.
Still waiting.....
Incidently I also found the same advert / deal with the holiday company
OTBEACH ( on the beach ). Phoned them twice, one reply was they were only sales and can't do anything about it, the second response was all the child places have been sold out. Could not find anything in their terms and conditions about this
Hotelopia still the best deal though with discount codes and cashback from quidco, but would be really nice if the free child place was honoured
heres hoping:beer:0 -
Read the OP quickly I thought it meant the hotels would have no children - sounded like my sort of place. What a crushing disappointment :-)0

Is it 1 week or 2? because 1 week is much cheaper via Thomsons
If your price is 2 weeks then its very good
Try gettign a price for 3 adults sharing often there is a reduction and its sounds daft but it can work out cheaper than 2+1If you look anything like your passport photo....Your too ill to travel0
