British Gas payment changes

British Gas have sent me two statements regarding my current payments.
The gas statement says I have used more gas than expected so my payments have changed from £75 to £17.76. Estimated projection £577.62
The electricity statement says I have used less electricity than expected so my payments have changed from £75 to £10. Estimated projection £647.41.
I've contacted them to amend the payments to something more reasonable.
Such a big company should not be making errors like this. Had I reduced the payments as they advised, I would end up having large debits on both bills.

Well it's better for the money to be in your bank earning interest!. I personally like underpay energy companies slightly so I do not build up a credit with them. I have known people to be in credit with them by hundreds of pounds, which is definitely not good!0 -

Actually the money is in my Santander account so I get cash back on my payments, so I'd rather overpay than underpay.
However, I imagine there will be some people who would have taken the lower payments which were quoted and then would have spent the extra money on other things. They would then eventually be sent a new statement with a higher monthly payment which they would likely not be able to pay.
In the case of my electricity bill, with a projected £647 bill, they advised me to pay £120 over the year. So this time next year I would have a projected bill which could be the same plus a debit of £527.
Oh well, perhaps they would then suggest a payment of £5 a month :rotfl:Not Rachmaninov
