Tenant Protect - Anyone used a company for compensation for an unprotected deposit?

Hi,
I've just come across a company claiming that they can get money if a tenancy deposit wasn't enrolled in the necessary scheme. Has anyone used a company like this? Are they legitimate, or is it a bit dodgy? Thanks.

Probably less dodgy that landlords who break the law by failing to handle deposits correctly.

Why the hell would you allow someone else to take a portion of money you are fully entitled to?

You'd have to be either an idiot, stupid or lazy....Or a combination of all.
  • Convenience, Mark?

The information that I found on compensation for unprotected deposits said it would have to go through the court, just a bit wary that this could be difficult and time consuming. I'd like to weigh up if it is worth my time to do it myself or outsource that work to someone else.
  • Thanks artful. The £280 court fee is making me a bit apprehensive but I'll try the letter first and see how that goes.

    Behave.

But if you want to give YOUR own money away you carry on.

Where did you get that figure from?
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p

It was on the link on the Shelter website posted earlier. Looks like you pay the court fees upfront then hope that you are awarded these back if you win??

    It's laziness and greed.

Free money is good. Free money without efforts and upfront investment is better even if the payout is smaller.
  • Has anyone actually claimed compensation for this? Either on their own or through a company? Just seems like there's a lot of judgement floating around.
