Vanquish credit cards.

Options
Hi all first post , hope you can offer me some advice although it appears I've been really stupid and lazy here.

I have had a vanquis card to build up my credit since 2010 , I used it and got it to my balance of £2500, I set up a dd to pay the minimum , moved house in 2011 , informed them and pretty much forgot about it, never got a statement / email call etc.
It's an account I rarely use so basically was checking through today and realised they Have been taking £125 a month for the last five years, I rang them up today and my balance is £2400 ish but they have taken 6k ish in interest and my debt is still the same. Now I know I'm stupid should have checked etc my fault I know but is there anything I can do? I've got a virgin card today and transferred the balance so I've stopped the problem.

Thanks in advance

You've done the best thing and paid it off,as for been able to do anything then Im afraid the answer is No, you could complain but the onus is on you to show they have done something wrong, you may have set up paperless statements, so no paper statements, you may have changed emails to the one you registered, it may be they were going to your spam folder, 5 years is a long time to not wonder what your £125 was going towards or why you were paying it. To not know what your interest rate was and that you were carrying a balance which you should never do on any credit builder card due to the very high interest rate.

It is unlikely that this e-mail was sent by Vanquis. Check the actual link in the e-mail; it will probably contain an affiliate referral code.

Many spam e-mails appear to come from the e-mail address of the recipient. Your e-mail account has not been hacked into.

Yes. That will be the most likely explanation, won't it?

Pay off the balance and bin the card then, You do not have any recourse whatsoever as you agreed to the high rates the charge and therefore must pay what you have had and used, Ps they do not hack into peoples accounts and this will be down to t&c's you also agreed when signing up.

You need to either pay it off or increase the amount you're paying or you'll get nowhere. Most of your payment is going to repay the interest, not the actual debt. Key thing to learn from this, is to check your bank statement to see what you're paying for.

I have one of these cards. I never pay them any interest. I'm using them to rebuild my credit it's important never to hold a balance as the interest is crippling!
