Credit expert (Experian) selling details

Options
Hi folks,

I've had a credit expert account for a while and ,like many of you I'm sure, I've been plagued by PPI and accident claims cold calls for the past few months. Every time they call I always ask where they received my details, well one of these companies got their complaints team to phone me a couple of weeks later and much to my surprise was told Experian had sold them my details.

I phoned the credit expert helpline who confirmed they had been sharing my details and would stop now.

If anyone else has a credit expert account I would strongly suggest you make inquiries as to whether they are doing the same to you. Apparently paying them a monthly fee isn't enough for them to respect you the privacy of your personal details.

I am now wondering whether to put in a subject access request to find out exactly how long they have been doing this.

Andy

I was intrigued as I also have a membership, so I went to check their privacy terms, and it doesn't mention anything like that.

In fact, the "privacy" terms allow them to do virtually what they want with data about you. They could summarise the terms in a single sentence, thus:

We will use data about you in any way we think fit, without further reference to you, and we reserve the right to pass on data about you to any other organisation at any time and for any purpose.

Dealing with Experian? You might as well just put it all on Facebook, for all the "privacy" Experian will afford you.

I strongly suggest the OP files a SAR with Experian. You will probably be dumbfounded when you see what they have about you. In filing the SAR stress to them that they should provide ALL data about you, including credit file data, current account turnover data, all data about you they've collected from third parties - everything.
  • Jonny I would suggest a phone call.

My details were actually sold by an organisation which is part of the Experian group, I will try and look out the name of it (Omni-something if I remember rightly). Who received the details from credit expert.

After reading that privacy policy I most certainly will be making a SAR.
