IGT Supply
We moved into a new build about 8 months ago and the energy bills are much higher than our old (larger) house. I have found out it could be to do with it being supplied by a IGT. Does anyone know how to get round this as I've tried a few comparison sites who then can not complete the switch due to the supply coming from a IGT.
Any help would be appreciated.

There is no way around it: that said, it is unusual these days for suppliers to pass on IGT charges. I have my gas supply from Zog and they accept IGT transfers and do not charge a premium. Ovo also accepts IGT transfers at the normal tariff rate. Some of the smaller suppliers will not accept IGT transfers as it is a manual switching in process. This should be resolved later this year with a new IT system. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Use the comparison site to find out who is the cheapest and then call the supplier/see if you can sign up directly on their website to change.Make £10 per day-
June: £100/£3000 -

Some suppliers do charge extra if you are on an IGT, but from memory it was between £10 and £40 per year (this may have changed, so as above it is worth checking).
However, if the bills are much higher, this is unlikely to be the cause, so in addition to this see if your consumption is higher than the old house, and if so see what you can do to bring it back down.0 -

I very much doubt the IGT is having much if any effect on your gas bills.
Many suppliers don't charge anything extra nowadays. None of the Big 6 charge extra, and they all accept customers supplied via an IGT.
Beware some small suppliers, as you have discovered, do not accept customers supplied via an IGT.
There is one supplier, I forget who, but it's clearly stated on their website, that does charge about £100 per year for customers supplied via an IGT.
I'm sure you would know who they are if you had switched to them, and you must have done so recently as they have only just come to market.
Furthermore, if any supplier is charging you extra, this would be clearly identified on any bill/statement you receive.0 -

Bulb - I think it is. From The Cheap Energy Club 'Winning Tariffs':
If you've an independent gas transporter (IGT), Bulb charges an extra £100/year (£8.33/month on your bill). If you're not sure if you've got an IGT, have a look at your gas meter number. If it starts with 74/75/76/77 and is 10 digits long, you do.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I am on an IGT and while it filled me with dread to begin with, it isn't really an issue. It does slow up switches and locks out a few suppliers, but that's about it.
Certainly hasn't stopped me from getting crazy cheap gas from Zog. Regular comparisons confirm that there is no other tariff that would cost me less, none!0 -
A quick tool to see if you have an IGT, i scratched my head until i realised it was the Gas meter point reference i needed! This tool just confirms what has already been said here but gives you your actual supplier/carrier.

The OP has not returned since creating this thread last April
If your number starts with 74, 75, 76 or 77, your gas is delivered by an IGT, otherwise it is not0
