The helpline deal with whatever you call about, they don't go looking for debts to mention on the call as they aren't responsible for arranging recovery, there last a separate number for that.
As far as I know once with them it stays with them but you could try offering a payment arrangement to HMRC and see what they say.0 -
I thought I read somewhere that it was changing so that they could link single claimants to when they changed to claim as a couple & vice versa?
I would have expected that they write to give me warning of unpaid debt still, & that if it wasnt paid up, they would be forwarding it to a debt collector..... Instead I receive a debt collection letter out of the blue, of which there is nothing to link up to my HMRC account... my name & address & an amount they say I owe... with an account number & client ID of THEIRS.... how am I supposed to know if this company is legit? or if they are a scam company pretending to be Pastdue? .... I have sent them a "prove it" email .... just so I can pursue things with HMRC0 -
Don't worry about the debt recovery company HMRC set LCS or Pastdue onto anyone they even remotely suspect of owing them money. Deal direct with HMRC, try to come to some arrangement or they will deduct it from any current claim you have, which, as you surmised, they can now do whether its joint or single.0

They can now recover it from an existing single claim or a claim with the same partner. They couldn't do this at the time your overpayment occurred.
If you have a claim with a different partner then you cannot have it recovered from that.
HMRC has a list of all DCAs used on their website but ultimately any letter you get could be a fake. There are many who get letters/emails/phone calls from people pretending to be HMRC.
HMRC can confirm if it's legit which from what you have said, they have.0 -

Yes, apart from sending Pastdue a "prove it" letter... i havent rang them, as I dont wish to deal with them... I have been in contact with HMRC to try & resolve things instead. Im really annoyed at the lack of communication..0 -

I currently claim as a single claimant.... dont have a partner...... It would have made more sense for the overpayment debt to have been carried forward to mine & my ex's respective single claims...
I have 2 email addresses.... one is for most of my official things, the other is for things regarding social media or form filling.... i often get emails in this second account from HMRC, various banks I dont us & also paypal... I know these are all fake.... I use paypal via my official email address, hence I know the other to be a fake... if not, I would assume it to be real....
Yes the name Pastdue is listed as a company HMRC use... however, how is the average person supposed to know a letter from them is official or fake, when there is very little info on it? ... I had no letter off HMRC to say they were passing it over... so it could have simply been a phishing scam by a company pretending to be Pastdue.... just as I get scam emails off paypal...
I rang the HMRC repayment number yesterday morning, as the lady on the phone on Monday said I could either arrange payment with Pastdue or with HMRC .... this person was quite offhand, insisting it was Pastdue I needed to talk with, & I was spoke down to, like I had purposely avoiding paying!.... when I said I was not happy, she put me through to head office..... they had no problem in taking some details & setting up a DD for me...0
