Vehicle Tax Direct debit
Hi Guys,
Just a quick question, I tax my car by direct debit, but missed my payment date last month, so the tax was cancelled, I then retaxed the vehicle online on Direct debit, this was due out on 21st but I completely forgot about it and it got returned. I had an email a couple of days later explaining they will try to recollect on the 27th but I'm skint and really struggling to get money together to cover it, if I leave the DD to fail, obviously the tax will be cancelled again. I just wanted to ask, if it does fail and I can't get the money together will I just need to reapply or will the Dvla issue a fine?
money is really tight at the money after recently moving and taking a pay cut so the last thing I need is a fine from theDVLA
Thanks in advance

If you pay anything by Direct Debit, it is the bank that misses the payment not you - unless you had insufficient funds in the account maybe!0

While it can be the bank that misses a payment it's much more likely to be down to the originator not requesting it in time. However, I'm pretty sure that neither has happened in this case, and that the failed DD was due to lack of funds.
I can't say what DVLA will do if it fails again, but it sounds like if you can't afford to pay the VED then you can't afford to run a car, so I'd suggest you sell it then the DD issue goes away.0 -
The email states they will try to collect on the 27th, (Wednesday) there's not enough in the account at the moment but going to ask a few favours later. I don't want to miss it as its the 2nd time it's been missed. And the last thing I need is a big fat fine dropping thru the letterbox0
