stedwell, where do you live......
I am in east sussex, had ours done 18 months ago,
got 4 quotes from 2 line quote..... 28K, to 4 page description
3 quotes from companies recommended by architect (no connection)(who was recommended by estate agent we bought the house from 6 years before)
went with cheapest which also coincided with ones the OH preferred.
quote was for 24K, we borrowed 30K and managed to redecorate loft, plus other 3 bedrooms and hallway . and still had some change
very happy with them, had roof refelted, facias replaced, and various other bits not included in original quote.....
if interested and within my area i can supply names and n umberssmile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

Thanks robnye I would much appreciate some names. I live in Southampton so not a million miles away! Can I ask - did you have to move water tanks or replace any boilers etc?0

Hi,
My partner is a loft converter, they charge around £25-30k for a dormer with stairs and an ensuite, including all the architect stuff and everything. We are in Kent, so I imagine your quote is pretty reasonable.
Good Luck!0 -

Just to clarify-
I'm not saying there's anything wrong with flitch beams and the Council's building control officer approved them before it proceeded. All I meant is quotes for this type of beam should be cheaper than RSJs.
I recall we also had a central heating tank moved higher because of the new radiator in the loft.
I'm sure prices have moved on in line with inflation and the same job would cost more today. At least my example demonstrates that prices may be in a broad range. Do so make sure when comparing quotes that you are comparing like with like. Hope this helps.;)0
