Mon 25 April 2016. What small dfw stuff will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important! :)

Morning all.
Been awol last few days as madly busy.
Hope everyone is well, I bet you are all flat out in allotments and spring cleaning.
We have been doing sheep stuff. Ds finishes at midnight and up again at 6. My job has been to tag and place our pitch paint on the side of lambs so if they get lost it is easy to identify them- in theory.
Office job is also busy and will be for another three weeks.
Money has been going great well under April grocery budget but I did almost blow it yesterday . 98.41 on 1 week food.
Need to send dd this week.
Have a good week everyone.

Hi Maria - thanks for the kick off :A

Big hellos to everyone who follows :wave:

I thought I'd bump the thread and say good morning, but I've just realised I don't actually have time to post properly because I'm meant to start work in 45min! :D

Happy Monday!

Morning All

Thanks for the start Maria my spell check wanted to call you !!!!! instead....make sure you stick to lambs and leave the horses heads to someone else ;)

Morning LaE

Got quite a lot done over the weekend so today shouldn't be too crazy.
Logged on to check banking but the money I was expecting to see isn't in yet. Maybe after 9. I do hope so. Was looking forward to paying my card...

Will need to take some of the vegetable puree ice cubes out of the freezer for DDs lunch today. We have sweet potato this week.

OH is taking left over lasagne for lunch so he's all sorted. And he's arranged to WFH 2 days this week which will save us on his travel and childcare costs for son.

Anyway time to see everyone off shortly. Have a good day everyone.

Morning all, thanks for the start Maria :hello:

Monday again, how did that come round so quick! I realised this morning that I have to work late tomorrow (in a non optional sort of way) for the first and only time in about 2 years. I don't have an issue with that accept I have made my mortgage appointment for then (about 3 weeks ago) boo!!!

My list for today:

Call and re-arrange mortgage appoint :(
Call builder and arrange for him to come round :)
Left over stewed plums on yogurt for breakfast and some flax seed from use up box
Check banking, FPL and surveys
Try and list a few more things on FB/Fleabay, may try gumtr33 and FB is terrible at the moment, but not used before, will investigate
Meals from stores, so YS sea bream out of freezer for tea :D
Swimming later using membership with LO as I'm working from home
Do lots of work to get myself ahead for the week
Now appointment not tomorrow, do a BT on CC3 so I'm not paying interest (just started)

Think that's all, check back later. PF

Morning guys :D thanks for starting the thread Maria :A

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend. Yesterday we went for a woodland walk and I picked a load of wild garlic. Made some pesto with the majority so need to portion up and freeze :D Will look for a recipe for the rest in a bit.

Bob - re the job. Yes it was the job share :( It was really stressful for my colleague while I was on holiday as she was working f/t and apparently it didn't work out for the employer either. The saddest thing about that position is she has decided she doesn't want to work at the moment, so the op of working with her has gone...

Things for today - I intend to make the most of the time I have today and tomorrow when I don't have dgd

[STRIKE]* check banking & reconcile all spends[/STRIKE]
*[STRIKE] email oh to let him know what he needs to pay me to reconcile accounts (this is a month over due as the cc statement was issued when I was on holiday so paid it out of my savings rather than faff around while on holiday)[/STRIKE]
* NSD - lots of these coming up!
* all meals from stores
* make the banana bread
* [STRIKE]dig out recipe to use up trout[/STRIKE]
* do a job application
* [STRIKE]freeze pesto[/STRIKE]
* [STRIKE]emailed employment agent about any temp work[/STRIKE]
* flylady
* [STRIKE]put a couple of loads of washing away[/STRIKE]
* [STRIKE]do weekend reports for the crisis cafe[/STRIKE]
* spend an hour doing gardening related activity
* [STRIKE]call ds & dd[/STRIKE]
* might take a car load of things to the tip if time looks good....

Ok think that should keep me busy! Have a great day everyone x

• Hi all!

Thanks for the start Maria

We did a yard sale yesterday and made the princely sum of £21!! but no financial outlay for doing the sale so it was all pure profit plus I'm listing online what didn't sell rather than it going back up the loft.

I'm still on crutches with my sprained ankle so have arranged to work from home all week which should have the benefit of saving me ~£40 in fuel!

Tonight we have leftovers for dinner - cooked my bargain YS 59p gammon shank yesterday so will either put leftover gammon in an omelette or Monday night rice recipe depending on what Hubs fancies (seeing as he's going to be the one cooking it :D)

Hope you all have a fab day :D
New total: £24,006 :(
I will do this.

Hi everyone :wave:

I’m back at work today and enjoying a free brew courtesy of my employer. :) Also had cereal in work – free milk. :)

DNMS – sorry to hear about your job. Did you decide what to do about the crisis cafe?
LPP – nice to see you posting again. :)
Helles – shame about your ankle but that is good news on the petrol-saving front! :)

Need to sort out YNAB and reconcile cash and do a bit of the money shuffle to overdrawn accounts :o – can’t wait until we are fully streamlined and have everything just in one account – especially frustrating because we have the money – just in a different place...

Teaching yoga tonight :T

Also eating food from stores – no supermarket trip for me – going to see if I can get at least two meals out of what we have in stores... – will be a challenge!! Gone over grocery budget (£200) by £34 this month and still got a week to go...

I’ve booked us a wee holiday! Super excited for this – got great flights for £55!! I used to live there so we’re going to stay in a not v touristy place where accommodation is much cheaper. ;) Have also done all the sights a million times before so we won’t be doing too much of that – just chilling out for few days in the sun! :D

OK, off to put some cash in the overdrawn bank a/c now...
• hmmmmm just had a delicious lunch, it's fantastic what you can do with stores when I put my mind to it! I had cream cheese, lettuce (home grown :D) and sweet chilli sauce sandwich with a banana. Just about to make a mocha to finish it off

La E - yep I decided to ask to withdraw my resignation. Am waiting on a response... I'm really not that worried about the job situation as now feel so much better in myself than I did last year when I lost my job and my mum died. Am now applying myself to looking for work I'm sure it won't be too long until I find something.

I managed to speak to oh about finances and he is able to cover our monthly outgoings until I can get work. It means things will be extremely tight but we'll be able to manage. I think these types of conversations are much harder if you're not married!

• Hi All,

Spent the last hour re-jigging some finances and their due dates as I managed to majorly mess up this month :( anyway, they are all sorted which is a huge weight off my shoulders (I can sleep tonight) and I have worked out finances for next month, including all the new payment dates and amounts. I really need to be more strict with my finances but life is generally stressing me out again. I feel like I am drowning in problems.

Apart from that, trying to sell some of DS2's bits which he has grown out of to make space and extra funds!

Its soooo cold here!

Anyway, thats my rant over... hope you all had a lovely weekend x
