Local knowledge for RCT required!

Options
Hello everyone. I am looking for some local knowledge about the Pontyclun/Llanharan area.

Bit of a long story, but I currently live in Sussex, my husband is likely to be made redundant in the next couple of months, and we are thinking of moving to RCT. Despite living in England all my life, I'm half Welsh (the half that counts) and have supported Pontypridd RFC for nearly 30 years so it feels like a good choice when combined with the prospect of being mortgage free and escaping the excesses of the English education system - my son is currently in year 4 and avoiding the dreaded SATS tests they do here is a big draw! I have family in Church Village so have visited the area at least once a year my entire life, so I know Ponty pretty well, but not all the outlying villages).

Having researched schools/house prices etc it seems that Pontyclun (Y pant catchment area) or Llanharan (choice of Y Pant or Pencoed Comp and cheaper housing) would suit us well, but I don't know what they are like to live in. I've been to Talbot Green shops several times, the swimming pool at Llantrisant etc...

Can anyone let me know what it's like to live in the area?

Both are handy for Cardiff, Bridgend etc with good transport links.

    They sound like good moves.

I'm a few miles further north but visit the area regularly and some friends of friends live in the general area, from what I've seen and heard it is a very nice place to live. It's always been clean and quiet when I've been, a few nice local pubs that are friendly and welcoming.

If it wasn't a bit too far for work it's an area I'd really consider moving to, easy access to Cardiff, Ponty, Merthyr, and Brecon.

It would probably be worth looking to rent when you first move, while not ideal it would give you time to get used to the area before fully committing to buying and gives more time to find your perfect home.
