It it happened once and was 10 years ago and they learnt their lesson then yes. I'm more worried about the ones you see daily on their mobile phones, speeding, cutting other drivers up. Also the same drive around roundabouts who drive literally straight on second exit.

And how would you know that they've learnt their lesson?

I'd be more worried about them being touched up than being driven by an ex drink driver at 31 in a 30.

It's the 'fit and proper person' test

    Isn't that for Fifa?

Motoring convictions (which a DR10 is) do not show up on enhanced DBS checks.

    Can you substantiate that?

The gov.uk website https://www.gov.uk/guidance/disclosure-and-barring-service-criminal-record-checks-referrals-and-complaints conirms that an enhanced DBS check includes "the same details as a standard check, together with any information held locally by police forces that it is reasonably considered might be relevant to the post applied for. The police will also check for any additional information held in their files that might be relevant to the position being applied for. It is then up to the police to decide what extra information is added to the report."

Apart from any convictions (motoring or otherwise) this includes unsuccessful prosecutions, allegations and other intelligence.

That should read "some motoring convictions..."

The system changed in 2013 and many offences no longer show up on standard or enhanced DBS checks. (The system is called filtering and a lot of minor offences whether spent or not no longer appear.
Driving with excess alcohol (DR10) is not on the list of offences that will show up on a DBS check.

    This explains the filtering system:
    https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/dbs-filtering-guidance/dbs-filtering-guide

and this shows which motoring offences will show up on the check:
