ScotteVest Vs AyeGear?

I love the idea of these travel vests to help with carry on only flights but they certainly aren't cheap.

I came on here looking for some help on how to obtain the ScotteVest because I thought they didn't ship to the UK. I see now that they do but of course it adds to the price.

I've just come across some very similar AyeGear products and wonder if anyone has any experience of them.

I'm surprised they have not had a mention in MSE posts. Are they just cheap knock offs of ScotteVest products?

Thanks,

Matt

If you only need that much extra stuff, surely you can manage to fit it all in a cabin bag and a pair of cargo trousers?
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.

They're designed to be used in addition to a cabin bag. You'd have to be a bit weird to wear one of those if you could have had a suitcase/rucksack instead!

That being said, before I learned to pack light I had similar success just stuffing things in a normal coat. Fill up the pockets, sleeves and hood and just drape it over your arm as you walk through the boarding gate. For the majority of the journey you can keep everything in a second bag - I filled the coat while waiting at the gate and then put it in a bag as soon as I'd gone through the gate (that's the last point they really check what luggage you have).

    Yeah.....

I wasn't suggesting you'd use them with a hold bag, just a cabin bag
Still can't see any great advantage using one, a few bits and pieces extra that could easily be put elsewhere with a bit of thought.

I didn't say you did... The whole point of these is you already have a full cabin bag yet need to carry more stuff...

I bought one of these jackets (not cheap at c£150). Very pleased with quality and finish, but after only 2 months or so it had a grubby look to it, almost rusty-looking.

I washed it (in Nikwax washing liquid) and it was no better - it seems the problem is that the colour has faded. Now, only 7 months after purchase, it looks terrible and is not smart enough to wear to work (the whole reason for buying it).

When I took the hood (never used) out of its zipped pocket to wash the jacket the colour difference was astonishing.

No answer at all to my complaint sent twice via the website, or to the e-mail addresses listed. The phone no listed doesn't work.

In searching for info (as I am concerned they have gone bust) I found that there is a very vitriolic dispute with Scott e Vest in the US, who say they have been copied. And I was shocked (when searching for Scott e Vest myself) to be taken to an Aye Gear page (selling Aye Gear products) linked/titled: Home - Clearance - Buy - Scottevest - UK

So I would suggest you steer clear of this firm!

UPDATE: I wrote recorded delivery to the 2 addresses on the website demanding a refund or replacement. Got a very brusque reply saying the company had been taken over (Jul 2017) and I would have to track down the previous owners. So as I said - steer well clear!

People will pay £150 for a coat to avoid paying for hold luggage! amazing
  • No, nothing to do with flying. Hubby wanted the coat because it looks just like a normal jacket but will hold all his stuff for work. I like it because he carries most of my shopping in it when we are out together!
