Confused about car insurance quotes
Hi,
My current vehicle, Citroen DS3 has an insurance group of 22. I am looking at part exchanging for a Mazda 3 with an insurance group of 12. I have run a few insurance quotes on both vehicles to compare the differences, yet I have found my Citroen quotes are coming out at £200, and the mazda at £250!! - how can this be when the mazda has a lower insurance group!? - they are both 1.6 litre petrol and both same age / similar milage!
Cheers Andy

How old are each of the cars?0

They are both on a 2010 (10) plate.0

You might do better to ask your own insurer for a quote, well unless its one of those (often referred to here, seldom in a good way) who quotes cheap but then rips you off for any admin or other changes.0

How can this be?
Easy - the insurances companies can do as they please - they think of a number and then double it.
These group numbers mean very little.0 -
I know very little about these 2 cars but although they both have 1.6l engines does one produce more BHP than the other?
Also I believe the insurance companies look at "stealability" in their quotes as well, (ie is one car going to be more appealing to thieves than the other).0 -

The grouping is how much a car costs to repair not how many are likely to have claims.
A Corsa is a low group but because so many young drivers have them for a first car and crash them the premium is much higher than a car that maybe in a much higher group but with very few claims.
So the good news that if you do crash it the repairs should be cheaper.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Put an old women on the policy as a named driver, will bring it down a bit.0
