O/S Daily Thread for Sunday 24th March 2016

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

    Morning all

JackieO, I'm glad you had a good holiday I hope you manage to get across to see Davey soon.
LW, I hope your cold improves. Judi, hugs, I have made a list of things to say to hubby's boss.
Camelot I hope you enjoyed yourself. Mrs LW I hope you slept better. Sistercas, I hope the walk helped.
Elaine, glad your DD enjoyed her b'day.

I suppose a 4am start could be viewed as a lie in!

Today I need to clean my cooker and the rest of the kitchen as it's looking generally grubby.

I may also cut the grass, if I don't do it soon I'll lose the DGC out there as it's so long. Hubby has always kept up with the garden but he is too depressed at the moment.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

  • Morning all. I hope your sleep pattern improves soon HESTER. I can sympathise 'cos for long enough I was the same myself. It's only recently that I have started sleeping better and I can only put it down to an increase/decrease/addition to my medication, although sleeping tabs are not involved thankfully.

CAMELOT I hope you had a good day in Oban. I am so envious when GERS comments she's been there too. We've had quite a few hols in and around Oban in the past, I love it up there. JACKIE your review must have done wonders for tourism in the Leek area I'm sure! It's an area I've never visited but am now tempted!

It promises to be a cloudy day here by the look of it but I am hopeful it might take up for the next few days, as we are off over to the caravan again later this afternoon. We always wait until the weekenders have gone home and we can have the place almost to ourselves through the week. So peaceful and quiet. (Except for the woodpeckers hammering, the pheasants kook kooking and the woodpigeons walking about on the caravan roof at dawn!!)

Need to pack a few clothes and an assortment of food to take with us later. If we trip off anywhere then we eat out but if we stay put or take a picnic we need supplies!

I'll be incommunicado till about Friday as still no wifi over there for laptop, but I can keep abreast with reading on my phone. Have a good week everybody and I hope all those of you with colds & coughs soon feel better. (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed and take care xx ps AOD for the last funeral I attended everyone was given orders not to wear black/dark clothes. Bright colours only in celebration of the deceased's life. It felt disrespectful to me somehow!

Morning, I have had difficulty logging in, took 5 attempts, each ti,e I got the welcome message and then was logged out immediately, odd.
I keep thinking that I have got rid of this cold and then wake up sniffling again.
Today, I have a list of jobs and then a friend is calling in for a cup of tea, I have Sunday dinner to make (roast beef etc.),
I absolutely MUST do the ironing.not that there is much but I find myself avoiding it and if I tackle it today, I shan't have to do it again for a week.
Cloudy day, it rained overnight, well it would rain, I watered plants in pots last night, that will have brought the rain.
    More tea anyone?
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back
  • Good morning,

Thank you Hester for starting us off, I hope you managed to go back to sleep for a while.

We had rain during the night but this morning is lovely, and the garden looks really fresh. We have so much colour at the moment with the tulips, blue bells, and I think they are called bears ears, the plants with lovely pink flowers and big leaves.

Himself is so much better thank goodness and has lost a total of about 4 stone in fluid. They are very pleased with him at the hospital, but he has to weigh himself each morning to be sure he isn't gaining fluid again. As we understand it, he is very likely to have a relapse, not through any fault of his own, just because the pump to his heart isn't working properly. We are both looking forward to a lovely summer!!!, we hope.

Not a lot planned for today, pottering around doing a few jobs.

Hester I know you must be worried about your L&M but you must take time to look after yourself as well, easier said than done I know. There seems to be a big conspiracy to make your life as difficult as possible at the moment, but please talk to us if you feel the need.

Jackie it sounds as though you have had a good holiday despite your cold. I do hope you can get to see your brother soon, just to put your mind at rest.

Hugs to all poorlies and those with problems.

Judi I expect you will be busy today sorting the men folk out before they go off to work. Perhaps when they have gone tomorrow and the house is quiet you will have more time to think and decide what you are going to do next. A big part of your weekly routine has gone now, you might want to do something just for yourself.

    Have a good day all

    Morning everyone.

It's cloudy but bright here, perhaps this bout if good weather is leaving us. Yesterday was sunny with a sharp wind I spent most of the day in the back garden clearing up. When I sat on my tiny terrace (three slabs worth) the sun was lovely and hot.

Camelot - I hope you enjoyed Oban. The roadworks on George Street are a real PIA and means the seats facing the harbour are gone for now.

TA - have a lovely restful week away.

Candlelight - good to hear that your OH is on the mend.

HH - sorry to hear your OH is not too well.

Today I'll be mostly in the garden again. There's more scarifying and pruning to do. My black currant bush, which is in a container, already has little fruit-shaped things on it and the blackberry, also in a container, is growing like mad.

I'm also away from home from Monday, probably until Saturday. The organisation I volunteer with want me to become a trainer have insisted I attend a Training the trainer' course despite me being qualified to teach adults. I shall just grin and bear it! Then I'll spend a couple of days with Mum.

Food is using up what's in the fridge - yogurt, berries, a piece of steak and loads of veggies.

    Happy Sunday everyone.

    Morning All

It was a beautiful morning a few minutes ago when I put the washing out but a big black cloud has come over!

We had a lovely day yesterday, Gers you are blessed to live in such a beautiful place. The train journey was lovely and relaxing - we got free tea and coffee with our Club 50 cards! We had a potter about, walked up to McCaigs Tower (quite steep) and had a fish and chip lunch with a couple of refreshments! I just missed a train back to here so treated myself to a taxi, I was so tired. Went to bed about 9.30!

HH - I hope your L&M feels like doing the garden soon, he would probably find it quite theraputic. Make time for yourself soon.
TA - Have a lovely time at the caravan.
Candlelight - Pleased to hear that your DH is on the mend.
JackieO - Your week sounds to have been busy, hope you can get to see Davie soon.

I'm planning on having a relaxing day, just some housework to do and then a potter in the garden. I wish the weather would warm up as the pea, bean and cabbage seeds have developed into small plants and could do with going outside soon. I may go and buy a little plastic greenhouse, had to throw last years away after a storm (and I mowed the plastic on the bottom!).

Have a good Sunday. Take care. XX

    Morning all, again

I took hubby up a cuppa at 6 and a little intensive hestering soon got me back to sleep. He didn't think he was in the mood, so I persuaded him otherwise!

Fortunately I was just boiling the kettle when I realised it was raining so I was able to rush out and grab the washing off the line as it had almost dried overnight.

Candlelight, glad your DH is feeling better. TA, enjoy your week away.

I have also visited Oban a couple of times and loved it.

Camelot, I was just starting to 'encourage' him out in to the garden as he was beginning to recover from the death of his mum and we have walked away from all the other shenanigans, then the reshuffle at work knocked him right back.

Thank you all for your concern, I'm a tough old bi**h, I will get through this, though I might ruffle a few feathers on my way.

    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone

HH - thanks for starting us off again x

Hugs to those that want/need them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now bright blue sky and sunshine, it started like this yesterday, then we descended into strange black/blue/purple skies and heavy rain which was almost hail at times then back to bright sunshine, I think the forecast is similar for today, it has been raining during the night as its wet underfoot. Wind was cold too.

Dinner last night was chicken in creamy mushroom sauce, savoury rice, mushroom chow mein and pancake rolls. When we got back from the hospital the menfolk were asking what was for dinner, and from all 3 I got please don't say it's chicken in black bean sauce - which is what I had planned, so had a very quick think and check in nearly re-organised food cupboard and changed the menu to chicken in creamy mushroom sauce, (luckily I had a spare jar of sauce in stock) - problem solved and actually it was very nice and we all enjoyed the meal. Today we'll be having my bargain roast pork, roasties, mash, braised red cabbage, carrots, broc, peas, yorkshires and gravy, washed down with a glass of chilled chardonnay.

Went to the hospital to visit ill person, who was very sleepy and dopey from all the pain relief, really can't see at this moment that operating on someone so poorly is in their best interests. We went and got a coffee whilst nurses attended to ill person and then went back and in the whole time we were there they weren't awake and couldn't hold their eyes open. We text ill person's immediate family when we left the hospital as they were visiting later and they text back during the evening so say in the 2 hours that they had been there, ill person had needed 2 doses of pain relief, hoping in the longer term this op has been worthwhile putting ill person through this. Whilst we were at the hospital saw my sister and nephew as he's been admitted, he was admitted on Weds by ambulance he's having episodes of horrendous abdominal pain, that he's been admitted before for and they can't decide what's causing it, appendix is a possibility but some things don't indicate that, they are thinking crohns, coeliacs (sp?), they don't really know, but he was hoping to come home last night but he's been kept in, so will speak to my sister later to find out he latest. We decided to call in on our friends en route home from the hospital yesterday and they were at home, so stopped and had a couple of hours with them, had some laughs and chat, was good after being at the hospital.

Today is just going to be a chilled day, will prep lunch and pack ups for tomorrow in a bit. We're going to go the caravan to see what we need to stock up on for when we next go away, (in 2 weeks), seems like we haven't been away for ages, we'll be really pleased to get away. I also need to sort out DS2's birthday prezzie, as I need to order it. I'll probably do that later or tomorrow night etc.

    Have peaceful Sundays' everyone x

    Keep safe and well x

    Morning everyone,

    Dry and reasonably bright here.

We were woken up by the sound of some very loud aircraft, it was three helicopters and OH grabbed his bins. Apparently they looked like Obama's ones so guess he had "parked" them at Mildenhall, maybe to avoid the congestion charge :rotfl:

Went into Cambridge yesterday for my hair cut, had a mooch around the shops, picked up some lovely Y Candle tealights, olive and thyme which smell wonderfully spring like. Also picked up a card for my DOH who has a birthday on Wednesday.

Today we are going to Mum's for lunch so looking forward to that, hopefully it will stay dry so we can do a bit of cutting back for her.

Candlelight so pleased to hear that Mr C continues to improve, TA have a lovely time at the caravan.

Have a good day all, take care folks x

    Hi everyone,

I seem to have got some sort of head lurgy - sinus, teeth pain, headaches and dizziness which is making me very sleepy. I hope it goes before Friday because we are going up to Yorkshire and have friends coming to stay. The wife is a friend of mine I've known since primary school - we've kept in touch very loosely over the years but reconnected last year - so I'm looking forward to it. We'll also be seeing another old friend (but one we met when we went to grammar school) I've not seen for over 30 years.

We have to pick DS and fiancee up from Stansted later, I hope they've had a lovely break, they work so hard.

    Have a good day.
