My 10 year old daughter makes her packed lunch the evening before. We do it like a pick and mix, so I know she has a balanced meal.

    Choice 1:
    Sandwich
    Wrap sandwich
    Mini quiche
    Cold pizza

    Choice 2:
    Carrot sticks and humous
    Cucumber sticks and humous
    Cherry tomatoes and humous

    Choice 3:
    A portion of fruit

    Choice 4:
    Popcorn
    Crisps
    Flapjack
    Bun

She has to tell me what she wants each week before I go shopping, and choice 3 changes seasonally, and dependent on what's on offer.

Do all make sure your children are actually eating their heslthy snacks. I used to make some lovely combinations of healthy foods and found out at my DD 16th bday party (thanks to her friends) that for years she had been throwing away all her cucumber sticks / cherry tomatoes / carrot batons / bananas etc. naughty girl :).

    I knew I was a saint :A

I tell DH there's not many wives who get up at 7am ( when the wife works evenings) to make his breakfast and packed lunch

I'm going to show him this thread lol

Today he had boiled egg and soldiers for brekkie and lunch was two rounds of ham sandwiches , sweet potato soup, banana, Apple , small bag of crisp, small handful of cashews and a sausage roll ( it's snowing and he needs the calories )

Mind I do come straight back to bed when he leaves :rotfl:

Mine do, they rarely have alternatives and are apparently starving enough already. Primary schools now often make kids bring home all their rubbish and leftovers too so parents can monitor what they have or haven't eaten.

I make mine up each morning, if I am unwell or particularly tired my older 2 make their own, which they love to do. They are 11 and 9 but been doing it probably 2-3 years or so. I would give them a sandwich, piece or fruit, veg (carrots, cucumber, celery or tomatoes), then either a yoghurt or cheese thing. If they make it they take more, they raid the cupboards till they are bare.

I used to make my own (mum worked nights and went straight to bed) sometimes I just took a yoghurt. Often I would eat my friends lunch, sometimes my friend would make my lunch for me if she had knocked for me early. If my kids didn't make theirs properly I would still do it for them, its a chore but it doesn't really take 5 mins.

They are not allowed to throw any food away at our primary school so everything has to come home so you can see what your child has eaten or not eaten.

That's why I buy Frubes. I know they're not the healthiest of yoghurt but when you've got a partially empty yoghurt pot in a bag that's been kicked around a cloakroom and then jiggled all the way home, the entire contents end up coated in yoghurt so it's an almighty mess to clean up! And don't get me started on how many teaspoons that have been lost! :rotfl:

At their age they COULD be making their own packed lunches from supplies you provide.
if they aren't keen on sandwiches then most kids would eat wraps and pitta breads or rolls.
some good suggestions for fillings above.
    I would add
    Pastrami
    sliced polish meats or salami
sliced cheese such as Edam etc
    seafood sticks
selection of salad ingredients including red peppers, radishes, cucumber and lettuce or cress or rocket.
mayo, salad cream and various sauces
my grandkids love to make wraps what from they can forage from the fridge - it takes five minutes! so not a lot of time each evening.
provide a small carton of juice and a treat of flapjacks or such.

it need not cost much more than a few pounds for the juice and flapjacks - if you normally have these ingredients available - and if not why not? they can all be used by all the family for snacks or sides for a family meal.

Thanks for the replies. I am now making the sandwiches the night before. Huby as asked for 3, DD1 wants 2, DD2 and DS want one each. I spend about 10 mins making the 7 sandwiches (cheese, pickle, lettuce sometimes cumcuber) although it seem longer.

Sandwich is the staple our the lunch - yogurt and friut is also on offer. After I make the sandwiches I make sure the kids put them into their boxes and if they want add other items. I only give the bottle water for drink.

If planned well I would need to buy supplies twice a week for the pack lunches.

I have notice huby is very happy however DS is taking the move badly as he doesnt do lunch, he normally bought snacks with his lunch money and ate them on the football field with his mates. Also all his friend eat unhealthy chocolate, chrips and energy drinks etc...

I hope we can continue with pack lunches as the family is very fed, eating healthier and its cheaper.
