8 weeks notice? Do you pay your rent weekly or monthly, and are you in England or Wales?

I suspect that the notice you've been given isn't valid but sooner or later the landlord will get it right. Now it's a case of whether you want to go the hard way or the easy way. If it were me I'd say no to any more viewings and change the locks if I had to since a family member has already been sent round and the landlord's request for you to take time off work to accommodate his potential buyers was ridiculous.

I'd find somewhere else to live PDQ, serve my own notice and hopefully leave the git with a void period.

At this point, I'd be changing locks. I'd also write a letter explaining that all future communications must be (by whatever form you prefer), and that unannounced visits by the landlord or members of their family will be regarded as harassment.

Say evening viewings can be arranged for a payment of £250. Or £500 if they want the place tidy.

  • Tell all potential buyers that you think the neigbour might have a drug habit. Might give you a bit more time to find a new place. Make sure you give notice and keep evidence.
