Need to win a car

I think some of you are being really harsh on the OP.. We all have our own lives, lets face it, if we were all millionaires, we wouldn't be posting on moneysavingexpert.com would we??
Someone has just come on and asked for a bit of help on where to start.. We've all started somewhere.. I don't think the OP really expects to start comping and immediately win a car.. But that's the thing with comping.. you can enter a zillion competitions and win nothing, you can enter one and win something.. it's the luck of the draw and if there is a competition and a prize to be won, someone has to win it, and it may be someone who has been entering competitions for years. It may be someones first ever competition entry...
We are all adults and it would be nice if we could treat other posters the way we ourselves would like to be treated.June 2016 Wins: £64 Argos Voucher :j July 2016 Wins: £25 Cash :j0 -
At the end of the day, everybody has different hopes and dreams....yes, I would love to win a car or an ITV prize worth £100,000 but I would also love to win a Cath Kidson mug or a pretty bouquet of flowers because I love Cath kidson and no body ever buys me flowers! At the end of the day, a comper is a comper and they all live in hope of winning something, whether it is to cherish or sell on in order to build up the funds to buy something they really want or need. No comper should judge any other comper for their actions IF they are playing by the rules. Every comper has the same chance to win if they are playing by the rules so let's just support eachother and hope that by entering competitions honestly we all have a chance of winning a prize on our wish list!I think some of you are being really harsh on the OP.. I think he made his point quite well and I didn't consider it a sob story as such, but maybe he thought he was among like minded people (Money Savers) and that he could tell us a little bit about his situation without being judged!
Good luck David! As others have said, you might not win a car but you will probably win something and that's what makes this hobby fun. Read the guides on getting started in Firefly's post and if you're on Facebook, check out some of the Comping Groups on there - There's too many to mention here but you will eventually stumble across them!
Actually I began comping after a car crash myself so I'm not being harsh; I was bed bound and bored out of my skull and entered for EVERYTHING as the win was a lovely pick me up. However it's been said before about ' new compers' asking for 'advice' thinking it's a get rich quick scheme but it's not. I've got a huge box full of prizes I won years ago that really will not be worth anything to anyone unless they're given to the local charity shop. It has also been mentioned on this forum about the ridiculous 'sob stories' that people post publicly in the hopes of winning something like a sponge, yet because it is simply a case (mostly) of 'luck of the draw', it doesn't make you any more deserving than the next person. If you truly want to win then get your head down and get entering.0 -

Like I said, he was pointing out his desperation for a car not that he was deserving of one. He didn't tell us his story here to try and win anything but was just telling us a bit about himself.Debbie0 -

There is always this way of getting a car.

Much quicker than comping.0 -
Now i feel like my hopes of winning an Ipad is aiming low. This year i'm aiming for a car with an Ipad in it!

comps for cars are quite few and far between compared to other comps, properly under 10 a month. they are usually mag or tv comps, always worth entering. my brother in law won one about ten years ago. if it just the money you are trying to raise just enter any comps with prizes that you could re-sell, although I only enter for things I want I don't see any problem with raising funds this way.
however to win enough for a car you will need to put in a far few hours a day of comping.0 -
I won a car once, back in the days when the puzzle mags had them as prizes every week. I wasn't even a comper at the time, it was the first time I had ever done a puzzle mag (have done plenty since though!) I enter loads of comps now but it still makes me smile that my best ever win was from a one-off random entry. There might be less of them about but someone has to win those big prizes, it's ok to have a little dream that it might be you.0
