cleaning clothes tax reclaim

hi im new to this thing. ive heard that you can claim money in form of tax payment for cleaning work clothes. I worked in a retail store for 5 and half years from 2009 to 2015 never claimed this. I was provided with work shirts and my hours varied from full time to part time to 6 hours a week so no tax paid on 6 hours a week.

I am now working full time in another job and they proide my work tops also.

how do I go about claiming for this and how do I get the money back is it cash or through tax code. can I claim for my old job

Do the shirts/tops have your works logo on them? It can't be used for normal shirts and tops, it needs to be a uniform.

What you get is an allowance against your tax due.

Generally the laundering allowance os £60 which is given as an allowance in your tax code.

if you pay tax at basic rate you will get 60 @20% = £12 per year reduction in your tax.

If you do not pay tax you won't benefit form the extra allowance.
