Who is responsible for amending my credit report?

I am in the process of remortgaging, however when I checked my credit file through Experian it showed a defult from three years ago with Talk Talk.

I had taken out a sim only contract for my daughter and after six months she took out her own contract so the sim was no longer used. I kept up repayments for the remainder of the contract and called Talk Talk to cancel.
The following two months I received a letter to say I was in arrears. Called Talk Talk and was told there had been an error and not to worry about it.

Three years on and I called Talk Talk about the defult. I was advised that the quickest way to resolve this was to pay the arrears £66.00 which I reluctantly did.
Had an appointment with mortgage advisor and the defult was still there. Showed her my credit report on my phone which showed the defult but with a zero balance.
Called Experian whilst in her office and we both spoke to an advisor. He was adamant that as it showed zero outstanding it was settled. She argued that although it shows settled on the report that I can see, it still showed up as a defult to anyone conducting a credit search and should now be in my history not showing as a defult.
He finally twigged and said he would put in a report to Talk Talk.
However, Talk Talk have obviously passed on that the debt is settled as it is now shown as zero.
who is responsible for changing the report, and what do I do now? A month on and it's still showing as a defult.

Ps Barclays are happy to proceed as the debt was under £200 and is settled, but won't until the defult is rectified.

Any advice would be most helpful.

  • Talk Talk have to take this off. Whilst you can lodge a query with the CRA, as you have found, the most they will do is pass on a query to the creditor and then report back to you with the response.

You need to complain to talk talk, explain the situation to them and justify to them why you feel they should remove or amend the default information.

If you feel you have a valid complaint but Talk Talk refuse and you believe the information they have shared with CRAs is inaccurate, then one option after that is to take your complaint to the ICO (information commisioner's office) but only after you have made a couple of documented attempts to resolve this with TT.
