Ants!

I think I have tracked ants where they are coming in near the patio and skirting board. On Tuesday I put ant powder everywhere outside and inside Rentokil gel traps and Ant Stop ant traps. I then found a few ants in the kitchen and on the worktop so either they have found somewhere else to come in or have travelled from the living room to the kitchen. On Wednesday I tackled any gaps with expanding foam and put three ant traps down behind the plinths in the kitchen incase they were coming in.
I didn't see any ants Thursday or Friday bur I woke up today and saw two on the kitchen worktop and three on the floor!!! I've just wiped everything over and cleaned everything out again with vinegar and water and put more ant powder down outside. I've also put tea tree down near the door in the kitchen and another ant trap not to the patio doors. In total there must be 6 ant traps between the inside and outside of the bungalow (I think I have gone a bit OTT but my partner has a major phobia of bugs)!
Does it take a few days for the ant bait traps and treatment to take effect? It seems odd they went and now I saw a few again this morning. I can't however seem to find the nest I lifted the patio flags and powdered and sprayed under them but didn't see any particular sign of a nest.
Is it just the time of year for ants?

I find spraying WD40 round the doorway stops the ants coming in.Its not that we have more patience as we grow older, its just that we're too tired to care about all the pointless drama

I use the Ant bait traps in my kitchen for a few years after I kept getting loads of ants in the kitchen, and they do work, since I have been using them not had any ants , it does take a few days for them to work. I never did find where they were coming from, as when we first moved into the house we never had any ants in the kitchen, then they suddenly appeared.0

Squash a couple and leave them lying about, that seems to put off any others venturing in. Don't know why it works but it does!0
