Claiming ppi back but loan not repayed

Hello

My husband had a loan for 5k in about 1999-2000 but he dosent think he fully repayed it.
Also he only knows what bank the loan was with no account numbers etc.
Would it be worth checking if he can claim ppi back or would it open a whole can of worms ie the debt coming back to bite him on the bum ?
If he can reclaim any ppi how does he go about doing it?

Thanks

If the loan was not repaid and he had PPI and he makes a complaint and that complaint is successful, then they can use any redress against the debt that was not repaid.
