bathroom strip light electrical advice please

bathroom striplight with 60w tube doesnt work. looks like normal incandescent tube, not halogen or fluorescent. the tube looks fine but i havent tested it. the live spring contact in the light fitting is dead, and neither spring contact seems to have an electrical connection. the live and neutral wires merely run close to the spring contacts - about 2-3mm. so how does it work? any advice gratefully received.

Broken/ disconnected conductor/ loss of supply. I take it this is a bulb with S15 caps?

conductor in fitting looks fine, not been tampered with. if any parts are missing they would have to have fallen out at both ends of the fitting - very unlikely.
supply is fine.
tube looks like the one in your link, so yes presumably s15 caps.0 -

is it that when you insert the bulb it pushes the connection tight against the wires? sounds odd.Mr Generous - Landlord for more than 10 years. Generous? - Possibly but sarcastic more likely.0
